Two generations have passed since the legions of Rome departed Britannia, never to return. Across the sea, in the mysterious mist enshrouded island of Eire, a dynasty has fallen.

Fergus mac Fiontan, son of a deposed Irish chieftain and his sister, Ygerna, flee from a feared enemy after their home is destroyed and their people are murdered.

Fiachu mac Niall, exiled son of the High King and his fearsome Pictish warband pursue Fergus and his sister across Eire, as they have been marked for sacrifice to Fiachu’s dark god, Crom Cruach.

They flee across the sea, but during a ferocious storm Ygerna is lost and Fergus is washed up on the shores of Dumnonia, a kingdom in the south west of Britannia. He finds sanctuary in a small fishing community where he meets Nivian, a beautiful young girl who lives in the wild forest and who is a follower of the Old Ways. She foresees that Fergus has a greater destiny and tells him about the legendary Sword of Kings.

Fergus’ fate is decided when his adopted home is destroyed by Fiachu mac Niall and his warriors in their relentless pursuit of him and Nivian is captured and enslaved.

Once again, Fergus is forced to flee for his life, but he is rescued by the mysterious Myrddin, last of the ancient order of Druids, who sends him off to the bleak hills of the wild Pendragon clan. Here he follows the path of the warrior, which eventually leads him to swear fealty to a young Romano British Lord, Ambrosius. He becomes the protector of Ambrosius’ younger half-brother, Uther Pendragon, a young boy destined to unite the clans of the south. But when Uther is captured by King Vortigern, Fergus and Ambrosius end up travelling the length and breadth of Britannia trying to find him, a quest that will eventually lead Fergus to seek the legendary Sword of Kings. But Fergus also follows a path of vengeance, seeking Fiachu mac Niall, the man who drove him from his homeland and who took everything from him...

The Guardians of the Sword Trilogy is an historical fantasy trilogy set in Britannia during the Dark Ages, a brutal time of invasion and social upheaval. The narrator of this story, Fergus mac Fiontan is thrown into this tumultuous mix of brutal invaders, ambitious warlords and religious strife where he must forge his own destiny and follow his own path of personal vengeance.

In this story, I have attempted to blend gritty, historical realism with Otherwordly mysticism to create a trilogy which offers an alternative view of the events that led to the rise of the most famous legendary character in British history...Arthur Pendragon.
