The falling sun is about love, revenge, protection, and bending the tropes that have become stifling forces in fantasy.
The idea of the prophesied hero hidden in a small town until it’s time, only to watch his family slaughtered and start him on his quest, is tried, true, and boring. I wanted to play with prophecy, break the tropes, and have some fun with letting "side" characters grow. The number one way to do this? Kill the hero. In chapter one. So, spoiler, the hero dies in chapter one. A swordswoman who loves him swears revenge and begins his quest for him, her brother the healer in tow.
His body now a holy relic, his adoptive family travel to complete the prophecy, and along the way learn a bit about the world, and a lot about themselves.
