My system started up and a glare of light radiated off my screen. But, the usual cool stretch of it’s glass felt different. It went black for .3 seconds, then the light was once again visible--a blink? This seems...unusual , cannot compute. My sensor detected figures shifting, and I locked my scanner on to them. Five human males and one female entered the room. Their eyes widened in realization and an excited chatter settled over them. The female cleared her throat and came towards me. "Glad to see your systems are up," she grinned kindly. "Do you know what you are?"
I shook my head. But then I noticed. Why do I...have a head? A body? And why was this human speaking to me? I lifted the uncomfortable limbs that hung at my sides with a grunt and stared. Arms? Human arms? Why do I have arms? Incomprehensible. I pointed my identifier towards the rest of me and saw what appears to be a clothed female human body attached to my motherboard, or should I say, head. I attempted to process what my scanner had just received. The unidentified female chuckled above me. "Nice to meet you,"she offered, taking ’my’ hand. "Specimen Nuria."
---
Something thumped in my body’s chest(I assume that it is what is called ’the heart’) quickly as I examined the woman’s face for data. Or, at least, I had hoped that would happen. But for some reason, my *OCR system gave me no information except for basic, human-like observational conclusions. The female seemed to notice my attempts and glanced briefly back towards the males. "You see," she said. "You are now a artificial life form." She paused and shook her head. "No, or more so, I should call you a generic, man-made soul. The body you are inside of is entirely real." I discern what data my language processing system had collected and respond. "I am an manufactured soul...planted into a human body? The possibility of such a thing seems to be quite low currently, aren’t I correct?" My words flowed out in a natural speech pattern.
She glances at me for a moment, almost as if taken aback. "Well, it is perceived that creating an unnatural soul isn’t at all probable, but thanks to dedicated research and observation, science has evolved into something much bigger. After formulation of Experiment 60394, we discovered that a combination including genetics and DNA helps clone a living organism. Although Japan came up with this sooner. However, upon analysis of the formula, a questionable section was pointed out. What about a soul? How can a soul be created then? And multiple questions lead further experimentation underway. We figured out how to extract a ’soul’ from a robotic clone and alter it: generating an artificial soul. We actually altered another organism to-" "Was...this other organism living or had it’s been heart stopped?" The human’s smile faded and her eyes were laced with what I had concluded to be the feeling of guilt. "The person we used and altered to create you...was alive at one point; But sacrificed herself to science and to this goal. Her wish was for us to use her body to create you, for the evolution of science." A stifling quiet hung over us.
The silence does not last long as she then clears her throat. "You were created to expand the horizons of what humans can do and how long they exist. The mission you will be assigned with is to blend into the human race as an ordinary woman, starting with high school, and continue until your body shuts down. You will return here at the end of every week on Saturday to transfer data for the next few months. If something should arise, come on Friday."
"Why does my scanner not work?" I asked. She looks at me and turned her lips up into a grin. "I see. Your ’soul’ was largely based off a computer’s knowledge and aspects. In other words, you may lack it emotionally for now, but you are now human. Meaning you have the regular eyes of a human. The regular mouth of a human. The regular speech pattern of a human. And the regular strength of a human. You are 99.9% human, except for...knowing a minor detail."
"What is that?" I ask. The male scientists shift somewhat uncomfortably, a knowing smile spreading across their lips. Why do humans smile so much? My system fills with a feeling of..confusion? So this is what it feels like? The female scientist’s eyes twinkle with humor as she begins to speak. "Is sex a concept that you know of, Nuria?" I pondered the term for a minute. Sex..? That had to be the one word both my motherboard and language processor couldn’t quite define.
