All, thank you for the support. Things have been progressing well, I have finished corrections, additions, and clarifications based on 1st round of reviews.

Now to let it sit for a little bit, read again myself before sending it out for next round of comments.

Best review was from

“This is very Kim Stanley Robinson-esque – very good!”

- Jonathan Maas, award winning author of the novel Flare

Thank you all for your patience,

Hi everyone,

The first round of alpha reading is going great, lots of good feedback and corrections to work on. In fact I now have my first serious review quote:

“This is very Kim Stanley Robinson-esque – very good!” - Jonathan Maas, award winning author of the novel Flare

So I seem to have hit the tone, style, and world building that i was aiming for, not to fix the grammar and related issues.

As a thank you for following my progress in this I would like to share this offer with you, full disclosure is that they will ask for your email address and add you to the author’s mailing list in exchange for each free book, but you can opt out at any time after you get the book.

Go to http://sffbookbonanza.com/freebooks/ and at the bottom choose Science Fiction or Fantasy to go to the appropriate list.

If you would like to find me on social media, or about my non-fiction writing see the links below

Best regards, and happy reading

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the long delay between updates.

Draft 1 is finished and has been sent out to select alpha readers. "What is an alpha reader?" you may ask. They are people who have agreed to read the novel very early in the process to help clean it up prior to sending it off for professional editing. This enables me to have someone else look it over and see all the things that I (and MS Word) missed in terms of me knowing what I meant, or details that I missed, or even the ever elusive missing comma.

Initial responses have been encouraging towards tone and ld building, but all have mentioned the constructive criticism that I need to make it a better novel.

Meanwhile, I was recruited to write a chapter in a technical book. Ok, so less recruited then I asked a question "but what about a chapter on ..." and got back the response "can you have it written in 3 weeks?"

So I am pleased to announce that  this has been published:

Chapter 9 "Telecom security 101: What You need to know" is mine.

Best of all you  can download  it here for free (requires signup): Peerlyst eBook 2 - Essentials of Cybersecurity

In other news, I have updated my website with details about my non-fiction book chapters and links to my various social media accounts. I will be adding a template and artwork soon.

So thank you all again for sticking with me, and I will let you know when the editing process is over and I have an idea when, where, and how my novel will be published. Until then I will be working on the next writing project.

Best regards

Post NaNoWrMo update.

Ok, having finished the first draft I am now in editing mode and will be updating the chapters posted here on Inkshares to the latest versions.

After that I will be looking for a few Alpha readers prior to professional editing and deciding how to publish.

Thanks for all the support.

All, thank you for the support. Things have been progressing well as I use the National Novel Writing Month as a way to push through to the end of draft 1.

Quick Black Friday update on my NaNoWrMo progress:

Total words for November: 20,171
Days written: 25 of 25
Total words in the book: 50,032
Still need about 300 more of plot and draft 1 will be done (will probably add another 2k in science appendix).

Then I will read it from the start and see if everything I want is in there and will start the editing process.

I will have it finished by the end of the month and will be doing a read or two myself before asking for pre editing help - don’t want to send it to a professional editor too raw.

All, thank you for the support.

It has been a while since I last updated, sorry but life happened - a lot.

I have decided to participate in the National Novel Writing Month in order to finally finish this book. So far I am about 30k words into it and need at least 30k more.
I figure that I started this by jumping into a contest (and making it to #7) with only 2 chapters written, so maybe this will help finish it.

Here is a teaser from the start of Chapter 7,

Thanks again for all your support, comments, and suggestions.

A quick update.

As I mentioned in the last update, I have requested to move my project into Draft mode. I was notified that the change occurred 2 days ago, and today I received notification that everyone who purchased would be getting refunded.

I received this nice note from them:

Hey Eric,

Well, you gave the pre-order campaign a go. That’s more than what most authors do. We thought we’d reach out and let you know that The One: A Cruise Through the Solar System is back in "draft mode" on Inkshares. This means you can continue to collect feedback and communicate with your followers about your book.Feel free to use Inkshares as a communication vehicle, even if you choose to publish elsewhere. We know you’ll probably want to take a break for a while. Know that if and when you’re willing to re-engage, you’re free to flip this draft into "pre-order mode" again. And you’ll be starting with your existing follower base!

Regards,The Inkshares Team

And as of today I do know that at least one reader received an  email from Inkshares reading:

INKSHARES                                                          Refund

Hi Reader,
We’ve refunded your order for 1 ebook of The One: A Cruise Through the Solar System, placed on xx/xx/2016.

We’re transfering $x.00 to your  credit card ending with 9999. It’ll take 3-5 business days to process.

For more information about this order, visit your Bookshelf.

The Inkshares Team

If you ordered a copy and have not received such an email please let me or them know so it can be checked, and your money refunded.

Now  this does not mean I will not be publishing my book, nor is is a final decision as to where it will be published. Just that I intend to finish the first draft before I try selling again.

I have learned a lot from this effort and appreciate all off your support, comments, and interest.

So thank you all for being part of this,

Hi Everyone,

I would like to thank you for your support and interest in my work in progress The One: A Cruise Through the Solar System.

I am truly grateful for the response, and advice, that you have given.

But after some serious soul searching (and reading the rules) I am going to ask that my book be put back into draft mode.

What this means for the project?

I will lose all preorders and have to start from scratch when I do decide to sell pre-orders. Thus losing the followers and pre-orders. This means that those of you that have preordered it will have your money refunded.

When I relaunch the project the funding period will start over and you would need to pre-order again when the project is relaunched. Why would I want to go back to Draft mode?

I launched the project with only the first 3 chapters and science appendix written in order to enter the Geek and Sundry contest. And I am grateful that your support kept me in the top 10 (although I could have gotten the extra 5 sales to end at number 6, I decided that it was not possible to make the top 3 so held parts of the family back from ordering). I am far from done writing it, and doubt I will make 250 by the end of the funding period on the 3rd of July.

When the contest ended I went back to pushing the writing rather than the marketing and selling. I am now finishing chapter 8, and have about 110 pages written (and I still have most of the solar system to go).

What comes next?

I will be starting an update newsletter. It will keep you up to date on my progress and status in Inkshares, and I will be sharing some of the maps and artwork as I create them. I will try to include some relevant news about space exploration that is impacting the worlds in the story, and parts of the science appendix (think terraforming, Extraterrestrial Yak butter, and floating cities).

All of you currently following will get the first issue with the option to opt out.

It will also update you on my new website and some recommended reading from other authors (both at Purple Toga and other publishers).

Thank you again for your support, and I hope you like the final product when I complete it.

Ps. apparently you may be able to follow my book in draft mode, if this is the case I will update you in the newsletter.

All, thank you for the support.

Based on some of the  great feedback I have received I have revised the first 3 chapters to tighten them up and improve the plot. They are now up on Inkshares.

As the Geek and Sundry Hard Science Fiction contest is winding down in only a few days I want to thank everyone that has supported me in this project. The response and feedback were great. I appreciate how friends and family have come out to support me and how people I do not know have embraced my first efforts into becoming an author.

I also want to thank the teams at Inkshares and Geek and Sundry for holding this contest, I have learned a lot.

I would like to also thank Purple Toga for their support in this project. Some of the competitors are offering mug or t-shirts, but Purple Toga is offering a free book with pre-orders of mine.  Details are at www.purpletoga.com/deals

Thank you all again, and good luck to my competitors.

All, thank you for the support.

With only a bit more than a week left in the Geek and Sundry contest things are heating up. So can I ask two favors of you?

1. Please consider spending $5 for a copy.  If everyone purchased a copy I’ll make it and get the National Science Academy to help with checking my science is correct.  If the project is not completely funded they will automatically refund your money.

2. Refer my book to a friend, via Facebook, Twitter, email, or any way that works for you.  I need all of the help I can get so word about my book is out there in order to move up the ranks, and to get this work published.  I hope you will consider being part of this effort!

Also, for those of you following the story, I have just uploaded the second half of Chapter 3 and will add Chapter 4 on Wednesday.

Since it is not possible to reorder the chapters once posted here is the proper reading order

Thank you again for all your support.
