I’ve worked as an actor, writer, director, music director, casting assistant, and teaching artist in New York for over 25 years. I also worked for 6 days as a waiter in a pasta restaurant near Bryant Park - Simply Pasta! I was a terrible waiter so I started coaching privately and teaching whenever and wherever I could to make money. Teaching was my "waiter job" while I chased my dreams as a performer and writer. I found I could work as an actor and teach "on the side" or in between jobs.

I made my Broadway debut in Parade at Lincoln Center and I started teaching full-time at NYU’s musical theater training program CAP21. At CAP21 I wrote and developed a specific curriculum that focused solely on auditioning for Pop/Rock and Contemporary Musical Theater. At the time this was uncharted territory! This book is inspired by my students and my experiences as an actor. My perspective as a professional teaching artist is unique and I look forward to sharing what I’ve learned.

I’ve worked as a performer and teaching artist at Lincoln Center Theater, Manhattan Theater Club, New York City Center, the Public Theater, Classic Stage Company, the Atlantic Theater Company, Naked Angels, Second Stage, Playwrights Horizons, New York Musical Theater Festival (NYMF), NAMT, Goodspeed, the Kennedy Center, the Geffen Playhouse, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, and more.
