Grotesque magic smolders on the periphery of the known world, beneath the notice of Oblivious humans who exist in a haze of self-delusion and shiny technology. Peregrina Dante has not a spark of this magic, but as an Observant woman, she notices the enchantments of sorcerers and the claws of monsters hidden in the shadows.
Armed with sarcastic wit and sharpened Observant senses, she has carved out a pleasant niche in this chaotic subculture, making her home in Crepuscular, a gory but glittering resort hidden in the untamed folds of Alaska.
But the arrival of the Calibornes, a prominent sorcery family, threatens her carefully cultivated cool, for the family’s indomitable matriarch is Peregrina’s mother, a secret both women would prefer to keep. Despite their best efforts, they are brought together by mysterious beasts that menace the Resort, the Calibornes, and Peregrina, herself, inviting breathless action, tangled emotions, and, above all, a meditation on monstrosity and the vicious ties that bind us.
I recently attained my Masters in Library and Information Science, and now work at a cozy library, where I gush about offbeat fantasy novels to patrons who just want the latest mystery. My fantasy short stories have been published in the F&M Alumni Arts Review. I am a first-time author, and I would greatly appreciate any reviews/feedback.
