’The Looming’ is a product of deep love that’s been going on since 2008. Back then, there was a great TV show on the SyFy Channel called Destination Truth, which followed the exploits of a real life adventure Josh Gates and his team of quirky friends as they investigated cryptids, ghosts, and legends all over the world. I was a huge fan (and eventually friend of the crew (even performed the wedding ceremony for their cameraman Gabe)). At the height of the show’s popularity, I felt there should be some great fiction out there similar to the reality TV show. But try as I might (this was the early years of Amazon), I couldn’t find anything close. So, I set out to write the book I wanted to read.

That book became known as PRIMAL THIRST, the first ENIGMA Directive thriller. It, along with its two sequels, became pretty successful for an independently published series. And developed a pretty large following. Problem was, I hadn’t planned for a series when I set out to write it. By book three, I had painted myself into a pretty distressing corner that I couldn’t see a way out of (hey, I was a fledgling writer at the time!). This painted corner wasn’t just about story arc, but also about the scope of the series. I had developed the series with too narrow a viewpoint...cryptids only...and my interests were much too diversified to become so stagnant on a single area. So I abandoned the series and moved onto other series and books.

All the while, I couldn’t Dr. Obadiah ’Jack’ Jackson and the Entity Identification and Global Management Agency (EnIGMA) out of my head. So, this year, I thought it was time to reboot the entire series and that is what The Looming (An EnIGMA Team Thriller) is all about. A complete reboot of the old series. Many of the same characters, but reintroduced in new and exciting ways so that you won’t have to be familiar with the original to appreciate it). Hunting monsters, yes, but not just cryptids. This time, I’m taking the ’ENTITY’ in EnIGMA’s name to a literal level, which means the super secret (and shady) organization will be hunting monsters of all kinds now, especially those of the more arcane variety.

All in all, I have great hope for The Looming that brims from a devoted love for the entire series. I hope you’ll fall in love with it along with me. The book begins with a bit of a slow burn, I’ll admit, but it’s not just about shootouts, explosions. and monsters from dark, dark legends. It’s about people. People I hope who will feel very, very real. So judge for yourself. Give The Looming a chance and enjoy!
