Chapter 1

“Do you still believe in me? Do you still think I can help you save your world, your life, your love? I think you’re doubting it now. Well at least you should be.”

The sun set across the tree tops. It’s glowing rays sinking deeper and deeper in to the forest. The night owl screeching in the distance, it must have found its prey. Sitting on a high cliff overlooking the forest and all its nightly splender was a boy no older then nineteen watching as the night started to take over the light sky. “Flynn! Flynn! Come on! Your mother needs your help and besides its getting dark now! Its our time to go in!” a voice called to him. Her long white hair clung to her back as she searched for him. “Sheesh! You’re loud! If you’re not careful you’ll alert them to your presence and we wouldn’t want that now would we?” Flynn chuckled as he picked him self up off the ground and headed towards her. “Not funny Flynn! I’ve been looking for you for over an hour! Is this where you have been all this time? Your mother is going to have your head!” she said to him in an angry whisper. “Airabeth, please...my mother wouldn’t hurt me. I’m her golden goose! She needs me more then anything and you know better then I do that she wouldn’t dare do anything to compromise that!” said Flynn with a smirk.

They walked side by side on the dark path. Flynn’s aura giving off the perfect amount of light for them to see. “Flynn, your aura is the nicest I’ve ever seen. I wish I could glow as brilliant as you did.” Airabeth said with a whimper. Flynn grabbed her hand and kissed the backside of it. She blushed and they continued to walk. Tonight was the Gathering. Where Solas from all around the Oliean will come and celebrate their found wealth for the past year. As Airabeth and Flynn made their way down the path from the cliff they could see the dancing glow of the city growing brighter and brighter. “Well master Flynn I’ll leave you to it. I’ll be waiting at home for your return.” Airabeth said with a long, deep bow. Flynn lifted her head by her chin and kissed her on the forehead. “No one is near Air. You don’t have to be so formal when its just us.” he said with a wink. With a flutter in her heart and step she smiled at him and headed down the west side of the path towards the great looming stone house. Flynn watched as her aura (as soft as it was) slowly fade in to the abyss of the night.

“Well, lets give them what they want I suppose.” he said with a sigh as he walked into the brilliantly lit town center. Music and the smell of rich food filled the air. No lights were needed as the Gathering brought many Solas’ in and their aruas lit every inch and crevice of the city center. “Flynn! Finally you have arrived!” two younger boys said running up to him. Flynn greeted them both “I’m here, I’m here. Its not like I would miss anyting. Mother wouldn’t offically start anything with out me anyway.” “Flynn Laidir Rioga!” a woman yelled over the crowd. Flynn sighed and slowly turned to face her. “Yes mother. I am here. Who would you like me to speak with first?” he said with a forced smile. The woman tall and long with fair white hair approached Flynn with a hard look. “You have kept us waiting long enough! It is our turn to take the stage and share our splender!” she said with a bit of giddiness in her voice. Flynn rolled his eyes and started towards the clearing in the center. As he made his way crowds parted and zeppelins flew closer. As Flynn walked he blocked out all of the noise. This happened every year and every year he would stand on stage and share his aura with the crowd and everyone would stand in awe of him. He hated it. The pageantry of it all. He finally made his way past the crowd to the main part of the stage. He stood atop the podium and spread his arms. “Fellow Solas! Look upon my aura and view the year’s treasure!” he yelled as two maidens brought out strings of bulbs. As they strung them around Flynn each bulb lit up each brighter then the next, until the whole square was lit up with his brilliance. The crowd cheered and shouted in praise of him. “Leave it to the Rioga’s to light up the night!” a man cheered. “Every year they amaze!” a woman yelled. Flynn lowered his arms, smiled and bowed. “Thank you everyone. Now the night sky will be lightened for another year with all of our help. Thank you all for providing your auras.” Flynn stepped down from the stage and headed towards the west side of the path towards home. Flynn’s mother stepped in front of him.
