Adam Marbrand is given a quest by his dying father: Find the girl.

Half of the novel follows Semblance, Florence, and Adam Marbrand, a family that has mysterious magical powers from a stone they uncovered on their land. From the meeting of Semblance and Florence in the late 1800s to his father’s death, Adam is the protagonist in a contemplative and imaginative mystery about his family origins and how he can possibly find the girl, who is the reason for Semblance’s death.

The other half of the novel follows the story of Selyse Belland. Born to a prostitute in Paris, Selyse finds a magical stone on the beach of Antibes and her life and mind begin to slowly change. A thief, a deckhand at a small harbor, and the secret leader of a revolution, Selyse seeks survival in a trying world.

Experimental in scope, The Great Rift is a magical realism novel that explores two coming of age stories in an altered reality.

Hello there readers! My name is Daniel Zweier (D.B. is that whole author-ly thing). I’m a writer and editor in the online content world, but fiction is the end goal. Novels, specifically.

I am thrilled to be putting this book, The Great Rift, up on Inkshares. I’ve been working on The Great Rift for just under four years now. It all started during NaNoWriMo 2011, and has been a serious evolution and experience for me. The novel is finished and I am working on the third draft. The sample chapter, above, is my current draft. I am looking for feedback on all levels, and am serious about publishing this novel one way or another.

My hope in putting it on Inkshares is to get writerly feedback from a wider community, see if the story has any traction in its current form, and hopefully to launch the book through the site. I am open to your feedback and encourage anything you might want to tell me! As I said, the book is finished, so if you want to read more please contact me and we can arrange just such a thing.

Thanks for taking a look!
