A single mom who works at a Google-like tech company with a Space-X-type wing wins a contest to go to Mars with the company founder in a joint mission with NASA. She goes to Area 51 to train where it’s unclear whether or not they will fake the mission. It is made clear, however, that alien contact is expected. During the mission (or not) alien contact does occur, and miscommunication makes it dangerous. The First Woman on Mars is a science-fiction-lite / satire that riffs on the sexism in geek culture.
