Hi all! This is Scott Kearney and thank you so much for checking out The End of Violet & Abby on Inkshares. It’s been a long road for me with these two crazy ladies and I’m sure you’ve got a lot of questions, so I’m going to use this section like an FAQ. A V&AFAQ, if you will.

Describe the book. Use only 8 words because I’m in a hurry.

Think Mean Girls meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Too long. Describe it in one word.

Ok. Some days I say it’s ‘heartbreaking.’ Other days I say it’s ‘bitch-tastic.’

What? That makes no sense.

Doesn’t it though? Seriously, it’s about two teenage girls whose friendship (and lives) are threatened when one of them dies and comes back with strange, possibly super-evil powers. You know, typical high-school stuff.

Ok, I’m intrigued. Got any excepts?

Sure do!

Outside Violet’s Window

Girl Talk

Judgment Falls

Where’d you get the inspiration for this?

Few years ago I saw this movie on Netflix called Jennifer’s Body. And it pissed me off. So. Much. The movie had such an excellent premise, but didn’t do anything with it. So for the next week ideas kept popping into my head about ways to tell that story right. I had 10 pages of notes scribbled down and that was the start of Violet and Abby.

You’re a dude. Why write a story from a teen girl’s prospective?

I knew from the start that the story would be in Abby’s voice, so I paid special attention and made sure that everything about her—hopes, fears, strengths, shortcomings—were genuine. I also went out of my way to ensure everything about ‘Girl World’ was also accurate. So far everyone whose read any drafts says those elements resonates the most. So I guess I did my job!

Got anything else you want people to know?

Only that in addition to everything I’ve already listed, this book is also my love letter to Joss Whedon and Buffy. The Whedon-verse had a tremendous impact on my development as a writer, so anyone who’s familiar with that specific brand of horror and humor will get a lot out of this story.

Cool. Does Buffy appear in the book?

Alas, no.

Why not?

I believe the kids call it ‘copyright infringement.’

Bummer. Any last words?

Last words? That sounds so ominous. How about this: I’m here to play bocce ball with your heart, but also make you giggle at the same time.
