The series this book kicks off actually began life as historical fiction. However, the more I looked at what I’d written, and the more I considered everything I was researching, and the questions that kept popping up in the margins of my research, the more I realized pure historical fiction wasn’t the direction the series was headed. I was asking a lot more "what if...?" questions about what would happen if certain historical events happened, never happened, or were altered in some way.

From this was born the Icarian Chronicles, about Earth, but not an Earth we know. A parallel world to our own, where the difference in continental shifting led to a vastly different development of humanity, and where the lack of certain key developmental events (such as the births of Christ and Mohammed, the development of Christianity and Islam, and the Age of Discovery following the Crusades) never happened.

"The Eagle’s Mistress" follows a familiar name, in an altered context, as Emperor Hadrian, rule of the Icarian Empire, heads to war against his own sister, who has raised the powers of the magical priesthood against the warrior caste who swear fealty to Hadrian. But one woman could sway the course of the whole war, and the secrets she keeps could either save or doom them all.

This book isn’t complete, yet, but I will continue to post more as it is completed.
