In a country ravaged by war, clashing magics and wills left kingdoms little more than piles of rubble. And as the final embers of hatred burned away, an entire populace laid defeated at their victor’s feet. And thus began the systematic annihilation of an entire race of people.
Over half a century later, a young man discovers he is one of the few remaining Som-Via left in existence. He had been taught to hate and fear these dark Magi his entire life, yet he had been one all along. Will he redeem his people in the eyes of the world or enact vengeance upon those who wronged his kind decades ago? Will he ever even manage to accept himself and the power he wields?

The Somnium Viator, or Those that Walk with Dreams, were once the most powerful sect of Magi in the realm. Though most Magi are attuned to a single element, the Som-Via could control the entire spectrum. More than that, the could access the Spark of Creation itself. Their powers came from their dreamless sleep. Embrace by pure darkness, these Magi saved their dreams for the day where enough magic and will power could temporarily bring their imaginings to life. Using their incredible powers they led their world into an era of golden prosperity. That is until their greatest luminaries were corrupted by Darkness. Slowly, this shadow bled into each and every Som-Via until an entire people were infected. As their gilded age began to pit and crack, the remaining Magi of the spectrum had no choice but to ban together to end this corruption. And, at high cost, they were victorious. To prevent the same blight from occurring again, the victors made the hard choice to enact the genocide of the remaining Somnium Viator, women and children included.
Ashling Maccon grew up on a small farm in the countryside. Since he was knee-high, he was taught to fear these dark Magi and the terrible power they wielded. Until, one day, he learns he holds the same incredible magic as the Som-Via who came before, like his parents, people who had been lying to him his entire life.
Just as Ashling’s life is falling apart around him, Darkness is returning to this world. And the only hope seems to be a young man who is terrified of his own imagination. Will Ash be able to come to grips with his own power in time? And even if he does, how will he prevent the Darkness from encroaching once more while having to hide a power that will mark him for death?
