I started this story about 4 years ago. It has gone through 2 major rewrites and a lot of crippling writer’s block.
Let’s rewind real quick, though, and talk about me. My name is Dan, I am a graduate from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, with a major in Theatre (read: useless). These days I am living south of NoVA with my lovely wife of 1 year (who majored in something way less useless) and my dog, Gimli (I know, I’m a huge nerd).
The Demon Blades is intended to be a trilogy. Book One, titled Hubris, is the project you see here. It’s a coming of age story that is partially inspired by my own fantastical imaginations growing up. Tris Byron’s tale borrows heavily from my own (and my own inspirations), though it did begin to take on a life of its own somewhere along my second rewrite.
So what do I need from you, avid reader? I’m going to be frank: I am brand-spankin’ new to this world. Writing, editing, publishing? What!? I’m going to need some heavy feedback and (gulp) some tough criticism. I really want to make Demon Blades the best story it can be (without sabotaging my creative vision). And, as I draw the manuscript to a close, coming up on 24 chapters, I hope to bring your critical eye to bear on my editing process. How are my characters? Are they believable despite their unbelievable circumstances? Is my dialogue too cheesy or campy? Do you get a strong sense of my voice as an author?
With your help, I think we can make Hubris a winner. Or, like, a winded-but-grateful runner-up. Thanks so much for reading! I really hope you enjoy my story.
