Rippers, I know what you’re thinking. You are thinking, "WOW! An update! I was wondering where that book wound up."Well, here’s the deal: refunds from the initial campaign back in August-October weren’t all completely issued until just about December 31st. This meant that a lot of people weren’t able to re-pre-order in time for the order to count for The List-2016 contest. So we didn’t place to win a full publishing contract. However, the independent judges haven’t announced their picks yet. I’ve been checking Inkshares obsessively, sometimes upwards of 10 times per day, waiting with bated breath to see if The Delicate Art of Soulripping was selected. There hasn’t been an announcement yet. So I will continue to obsessively check and as soon as I know something you’ll all see another update. Long, painful wait aside, what I will tell you is that I have arranged the rough draft into an editable document to print off and read through myself. There are some sections that still have things like, "BUT THIS CONTRADICTS WHAT YOU WROTE LAST WEEK ABOUT HOW THIS WORKS SOFIXITINEDITINGPLEASEFUTURESARA!" and "THE GUY WITH THE NAME YOU HAVEN’T SELECTED YET" and other notes I wrote to myself while highly caffeinated and unable to form reasonable connections within my own brain. I’m hoping to have a rough-edit-draft completed by March so I can then add in any sections I find are needed along the way. Then we’ll see where that draft goes.
It could be Inkshares. It could be somewhere else. I’m really not sure right now, but I am sure that it will happen somehow. And as soon as I know, so will all of you. As always, thank you for the support and the patience. Happy Ripping,
Greetings fellow rippers!
I know 2016 is coming to a close, and so is The List contest. 2016 has been a brutal year for many reasons and while I am happy to see it end I am less happy about the end to the contest while still amazingly honored to have been selected.
We are way down the line in unique readers. This is in part due to several things, including that getting someone to re-pre-order a second time is way more difficult than the first pre-order. There is also still an issue of refunds which I am still in contact with Inkshares about.
This wasn’t a failure on your part. It wasn’t a failure on my part either (well, maybe a little. Ok, maybe a lot).
But there is still hope the independent judges will select Oz’s book and if that happens you will all be the first people I tell.
It’s been a heck of a year, rippers. It’s been a fun journey up and down and all around. And I am honored to have had your support through it all.
Rippers, I have awesome news on several fronts! 1. We are on the leader-board for The List 2016! That’s right, I have photographic evidence that we have finally hit the top ten for the contest. But as you can see in the picture below, we are almost 100 readers away from taking ninth place.
In the last campaign we had 140 unique readers, so if everyone re-orders we’ll be moving up quick. So please re-order ASAP. The contest has less than 3 weeks left.
2. Elena at Inkshares has assured me that refunds from the previous campaign have been processed. She has been super awesome amazing in helping me make sure this happened, and I would like to offer her another huge thank you! If for some reason you haven’t seen your refund yet, let me know. And if you do see your refund, please go and re-pre-order to ensure you don’t miss out once we hit publication!
3. I have a new chapter I am editing and hope to have on the site later this week, so keep an eye out for that.
And last but certainly not least, please share the project with others you think might be interested. It only costs about the same as 2 lattes to help bring Oz’s story to life and it really would mean the world to me to see that dream become a reality.
Until next time, happy holidays and keep ripping!
Happy December, Rippers!
I don’t know about you, but I sure am happy November is over. National Novel Writing Month is over, which means my time is a little bit more free to focus on things other than writing 1667 words every day. What this means is that I have had time to go through and compile the information necessary to ensure anyone who previously ordered my book will get a refund. Keep an eye out for an email informing you of the refund here in the next couple of days. And now we get down to the business of The List! We now have 28 days left in that contest. We are hundreds of orders behind, so if you plan to re-order please do it sooner rather than later! The more sales, the better our chances of catching up and catching the eye of one of the judges. Now that the refund information has been submitted I will start working on the next chapter of the book to release when we hit 50 readers. Starting over kinda bites, but I think it’s a challenge we can rise to. Keep ripping!
It’s official: The campaign has restarted and pre-orders are rolling in. If you have yet to re-pre-order, please do so! If you haven’t received a refund from your first pre-order let me know ASAP. Shoot me an email a sarapolkwrites (@) gmail.com so I can personally see to it you get your refund. I don’t want anyone to miss out on their copy or feel like they were cheated in any way, so please double check your bank statement from November or check it online. If you don’t see it I have the ear of someone at Inkshares who will manually ensure every refund is issued. You have my word. But otherwise, please please please also re-order! It’s a whole new campaign and I am up against other projects that are starting with hundreds of sales. It’s a long-shot. It’s an uphill battle.
But it’s possible with a little help from my friends.
(Yes, okay, I may be a bit of a Beatles nerd. So sue me. (**Note: please do not sue me. I am but a poor social worker and is being a huge Beatles Fan really grounds for a suit? Probably not.**)) But really, this contest is different. There are 3 independent judges also choosing a project to greenlight. Getting the most sales= guaranteed contract. Getting enough sales to show how legitimate the novel is and that people actually support it= a better chance in the eyes of those judges. And let’s be honest: anything is possible if you try. As always, keep ripping,
Rippers, Reapers, and amazing supporters,
You may have noticed you received an email informing you The Delicate Art of Soulripping has entered the "funding" stage on Inkshares. And it’s true. I have decided to take another stab at reaching the funding goal for a very exciting reason: the book was selected along with 34 others for an exclusive opportunity to compete in Inkshares "The List" for 2016. "The List" was developed based on nominations received from published authors, Inkshares staff, and even Holloywood executives based on works that hadn’t reached the full funding goal but they feel have the potential to be great.
This means Oz’s story has a second chance. The details of the contest are a little bit different but boil down to the same thing as before which means I need to sell as many pre-orders as possible.
But here’s the catch: other projects I am competing against are hundreds of pre-orders ahead of me because their previous orders count if they were already in the funding process. Since this project wasn’t we are starting from square one.
I considered not entering. I thought it seemed like an uphill battle that I was definitely going to lose. But then I remembered what I tell the kids I do therapy with all of the time: If you don’t try you’ll never even give yourself the chance to succeed.
I believe in this book. I honestly do. Otherwise I would have simply taken the honor of being selected and not taken on this seemingly impossible task. But because I want to share this story with the world I am going to go for it. All in.
And here’s where you come in: if you already pre-ordered before, thank you so so so so much, but I need to ask you to re-pre-order. If you hadn’t pre-ordered before, PLEASE pre-order now. I also need to ask you to please, please share the book with people you think might be interested in ordering. Reach out to them, let them know the difference they could make in this process and also get an awesome book in the process.
I can’t do this alone. I don’t have nearly the connections necessary to get this crowdfunded on my own. If you want to read this book half as much as I would like for you to please reach out to even just one other person who might be interested in pre-ordering. You will be on my list of heroes now and forever.
Plus if you get 5 people to pre-order I will stand by my previous offer of writing you into the book. It’s finished thanks to NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) but there are still sections I need to finesse that you can star in.
As always, thank you from the deepest part of my soul. I really appreciate the support. I can’t do this without you.
Rippers, I have bad news and what could be construed as good news.
As most of you can see and/or may be aware of, The Delicate Art of Soulripping has not met the funding goal. There are several reasons for this, including that I have a small-ish network of people willing to purchase the book and also that well, death is scary. There were quite a few people who, when I told them the premise, promptly let me know the book sounded horrible, should probably be banned, etc. Not everyone is good with death. It’s a shame really because we’re all headed in that direction one way or another. Anyway, the long and short of it is crowdfunding may not be the best option for this book. But the good news that comes with this utter and complete failure: you will all get your refunds.
And The Delicate Art of Soulripping will be going on to its next adventure- traditional publishing. That’s right. I’ll be sending query letters and samples, and synopses. So this book may very well happen someday. Just not today. Thank you so much for your support. I really appreciate every pre-order, every shared post, and every recommendation the book got. It just wasn’t in the stars, and that’s okay. Who knows, maybe those stars have something entirely different in mind for Oz. Thanks again,
Sara (and Oz by proxy)
