The story of The Chronicle of ZhuZhou takes place in a fictional world, on a continent called ZhuZhou, and on the islands surrounding it. The characters are human, but the animal life is different from anything on Earth. There are three principal story lines in the series: the quest of an imperial concubine for power; the rising threat of the Apuumen clans who roam the steppe which forms the Kingdom of Heaven’s northern border; and the journey of a queen as she tries to protect her pastoral people from outside threat. As the series progresses, all three story lines will become increasingly intertwined.

The story is told in the limited third-person through the eyes of three main,  POV characters with occasional other POVs as needed.

Just as A Song of Ice and Fire  draws on fascinating European history for inspiration, The Chronicle of ZhuZhou does the same with the vast treasure trove of Asian history.
