Got a bit intense there, didn’t it? ::he said, pointing at the sample chapter above::
Hello, and welcome to my Inkshares campaign.
My name is Walter Spence, and I am a writer of fantastic fiction of multiple varieties, including (but not limited to) fantasy, urban and otherwise.
I began this novel a number of years ago, then put it to the side for a time while working on another novel, a paranormal tale called House of Shadows, which I self-published on Amazon. If you’re curious, you can find it there.
The Caballa holds a special place in my heart. It is/will be a fusion of several differing types of novels which I have enjoyed so much over the years: nostalgic tales such as Stephen King’s IT and Robert McCammon’s BOY’S LIFE mixed with fantasy novels of young people overcoming great trials, like the Harry Potter novels or C. S. Lewis’s THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA. In fact, I often describe it as ’THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE, as written by Stephen King’.
As I see it, in crowdsourcing, readers are being given the opportunity to vote on what they read. I find this exciting. Readers know better than anyone what they like, and when they do, the joy is like reading a wonderful novel only to discover it’s a series. There is a joy in discovering something few others have, then voting with one’s time and money as a personal statement to the world, a declaration that ’I was a part of this’.
I hope you feel that way about my novel. It is the tale of four young teenagers, ages twelve through fourteen, who unexpectedly find themselves in an unfamiliar and dangerous world where they must face incredible challenges. It’s not a young adult novel, though I have no doubt there are young adults who would enjoy it. It’s a look back at our own formative years, a story about the most heartfelt issues we dealt with as adolescents as it tells a story about confronting dangers and making sacrifices many adults will never face.
The Caballa is a story of courage, of seeking hope against incredible odds, and it is my sincerest hope that you will chose to come with me on this journey.
