The Bard leaps right in to the story and the reader is taken along with the engaging protagonist, Kate. Set in medieval England, the author wastes no time revealing the arc of the story, but leaves enough mystery to keep the pages turning. With time travel stories, it is important to make the reader see the alternate time as vivid and real, which is something Cruickshank pulls off effortlessly.
