The Story

Two high school students find out by accident that a network of modified nuclear rockets are launched to the dark side of the Moon every month. The story combines romance, action, adventure, humor, sci-fi and history (Cold War space programs). The fast-paced plot is filled with juvenile enthusiasm; the adventure will take you from 50’s nuclear shelters in Washington, D.C., to remote Central American jungles and to the dark side of the Moon.

The Author

I have a background in physics and I’m currently a teacher (introductory physics courses). Besides education and science, my other interests are : innovation, art, entrepreneurship, business models and, of course, writing.

The story behind the story

Sunglasses and Rockets is based on my love of space, science, history and adventure literature. Books by Jules Verne, Michael Crichton, Carl Sagan, George Gamow and Paul Davies most satisfy me.

I have to admit as well that I’m a huge movie buff. Especially those fims that inspire you and make you dream. Thus, when I wrote Sunglasses and Rockets, I wanted do for the reader what a wonderful reading or a great movie has done for me: create magic.

I also have to mentionthat I self-published a novel Working fora Genius in 2003. (If you haven’t heard about it, you’re not the only one.) Working for a Genius is actually the first half of Sunglasses and Rockets. A couple of years later, I wrote the sequel. And now that I bumped into Inkshares, I decided to do some minor edits to the original Working for a Genius and combine its sequel into one book that tells the whole story. This work is Sunglasses and Rockets.

What should readers expect?

Readers can expect a story that vibrates with juvenile idealism in which love, trust, loyalty, courage and friendship are featured. In short, it’s a book intended to contribute to the diffusion of the wonders of science and technology, while highlighting the inquisitive passions of characters that are unafraid to follow their own voices and work to make their dreams come true. And naturally, since the story contains many scientific elements, readers will be introduced to exciting hot topics in science such as: wearable computers, space exploration including the mysterious, hushed-up secret space race and experiments that aim to reveal the deepest nature of matter itself. Fun issues, youthful exuberance, serious, mature scientific insights and imaginative real-world consequences make this a great adventure read.
