Stanky - Follow writer-blocked Preston Weary on a life journey down a twisted, dark and bone-chilling road known as Philips. A road that houses the cabin his friend just offered him to stay at, as on a quest for new inspiration after a recent divorce. Though when macab things begin to occur at the cabin, is the inspiration Preston seeks worth the haunting horrible truth that hovers above the wooden walls of the house out in the middle of the woods.

It’s funny how this story has ended up on this site, entering the CryptTV contest. I first became aware of the El Terror contest, which was a partnership between CryptTV and Fullscreen. Within that contest, you must submit a 30-second trailer teasing a terrifying new digital series of your own. The top ten entries will win cash deals to develop series bibles with help from the twisted minds behind CryptTV. One finalist will win $50,000 to make a series, which will premiere exclusively on Fullscreen’s new subscription video on demand platform.

I quickly whipped up an awesome trailer for a horror series titled ’spiderwebs’ - the terrifying true tales of different individuals who get involved with strangers online. Strangers who turn out to be...not who they say they are... Catfish...worst case scenario.

After submitting my trailer and feeling confident, I did thorough CryptTV research and discovered another contest they were hosting with Inkshares, and also the critically acclaimed Blumhouse Productions - which is hilarious because I originally was inspired and came up with the idea for ’Stanky’ after reading ’The Blumhouse Book Of Nightmares: The Haunted City’. I have always admired Jason Blum as a producer and have future plans of pitching film projects his way. I was going through a big transitional period in my life when I finished reading ’The Haunted City’, which sparked ’Stanky’, after being based on actual real life events happening to myself. Originally I wanted to give ’Stanky’ to Jason Blum as a gift before pitching any films, sort of as an ice breaker. I thought it was a great little scary story that would be good entertainment, and show my creative voice in telling a tale.

It’s weird how things work out. Originally I wanted $50,000 to shoot the ’spiderwebs’ feature, which was an anthology of three 20-minute short stories. Then I came across the El Terror contest which the finalist receives $50,000 to create a series. ’spiderwebs’ could easily be broken down from a feature into a series.

El Terror lead to The CryptTV Collection contest. My overall goal from entering these two contests is to be seen and heard by my peers and definitely three of the people that I highly respect and look up to - Eli Roth, Jason Blum, & Danny Trejo.
