About the Book:
It has been said that there are no secrets in a small town, but whoever said it has never been to Westminster Falls, Kansas, where an ancient evil lurks within the tree line and funerals with small coffins were once the heart wrenching norm. For thirteen years the town believed the murderer dead, shot through the heart while red-handedly holding a bloodstained Teddy Ruxpin, but when children once again begin to disappear, parents become frantic, the Sheriff tries to make logical sense of the situation, and the towns youth begin to see a dark entity haunting their dreams.
It is discovered that a girl from the local high school is missing, and as more and more calls come in about missing persons, the town sheriff believes that his only viable suspect has to be the school bully, even though it resembles a child murderer that he and most of the town believe he killed thirteen years before. All the while, the children of the town, seen through the point of view of Lilly, Kelly, Flash, and his garage band, known as The Freaks, begin to see a dark entity within their dreams using their own personal fears and demons against them. The Sheriff works to investigate the case logically, while the youths work to investigate the towns magical past, until they must finally work together to save the town.
Sinister Falls is a story that falls between the genres of Horror, Sci Fi, and Dark Fantasy. It is complete and unpublished and set primarily in the 1990s spanning around 97,262 words. If Stephen Kings "It" met a Rockstar and had a "Stranger Things"-esc literary child, I believe it would be this book, and I personally believe it will appeal to fans of Stephen King and Joe Hill, that enjoyed It or NOS4A2, as well as fans of books stuffed with nostalgia like Cline’s Ready Player One.
Note From the Author:
Hey everyone,
Welcome to the wild ride of a novel that is Sinister Falls. A tale chock-full of garage band rock, 90’s nostalgia, teenage angst, a mysterious vagabond motorcycle rider, and oh yeah, a dark entity that kills children to retain life. It is told from a POV style yet holds a chronological timeline, and sees the events unfold through many different sets of eye’s and perceptions both male and female, young and old, in the dark and in the know.
I’d like to say thank you to everyone that chooses to read or follow my book. Sinister Falls was the first time I wrote a story that I personally wanted to read, or see on a cold, dark, rainy October night on the silver screen. So I went in knowing nothing and watched in terror as it spiraled word by word further down the dark stairwell that is horror. No outline or premise other than “something about a litch.” Each sentence and chapter was unplanned and flowed forth from the last.
Seeing as it is a complete manuscript (roughly 97,272 words, but who’s counting), I plan on adding another chapter or two the closer I get to my reader goal. So I hope you enjoy the content I currently have available.
Sincerely,
J. Charles Poe
