“You’ve got to be shitting me!” Ray thought to himself. All the precautions he took to avoid the very thing that was happening now, was a huge waste of time. “Why didn’t I just stay in my apartment” he pondered “ I am no hero”.
It was if time had completely come to a stop but he continued to move. As he floated towards the bright light, he looked around the apartment and the fish tank caught his eye. The fish were perfectly still, when they should have been swimming without a care in the world. Even the steam coming out of the wall heat register was still and looking like a mushroom cloud frozen in time.
He no longer heard the voice that was crying for help and he didn’t see anyone in the apartment either. For that matter, the only thing he saw that occupied the apartment was the fish tank.
What a day this has been. Did I fall asleep watching the news again? Is this all just a paranoia induced dream? This brought a chesire cat smile to his face, that can be the only explanation to all this craziness, he was always vigilant to taking the precautions necessary to avoid “them” finding him. He must be dead asleep on the sofa he concluded.
Just the he hit his head on the ceiling fan, “Fuck” he yelled. And as the blood trickled down his face, he realized this was no dream.
As he continued floating closer to the giant hole in the side of the building the blinding white light, turned to a more soothing blue light. This light felt more warm, soothing and inviting. It almost was relaxing enough to fall asleep, but then Ray realized “they” had him and he needed to stay awake, he didn’t know what was to come.
As he floated through the hole in the building he was fascinated by the fact he could move the frozen water droplets in the air, that were caused by the ruptured pipe in the building wall. He thought this would be so cool, if he wasn’t floating to god knows where.
The last thing he saw before he passed out was he was floating three floors above the street. No one noticed him or the blue light and kept going about their routines.
When Ray awoke, he expected to be naked strapped to a generic, silver medical table, instead he awoke in a lush field of what could only be described as a cross between wheat and corn. It was extremely soft but very firm and stable at the same time.
He began to look around and was baffled by what he saw. He could barely comprehend it himself. It was some kind of farm but not any kind he had ever seen.

When Ray awoke, he expected to be naked strapped to a generic, silver medical table, instead he awoke in a lush field of what could only be described as a cross between wheat and corn. It was extremely soft but very firm and stable at the same time.
He began to look around and was baffled by what he saw. He could barely comprehend but it was too bright to look for more than a couple seconds. It appeared to him that the were many suns in the sky, three he thought, but couldn’t confirm it because it was it was so bright and blurred his eyes.
He started walking through the fields towards the structures, which he assumed would be the equivalent of the farm house. So there must be some kind of civilization around here and he needed to find out where in the world he was, or should he say universe.
He walked for what felt like an eternity, when he began to smell something that reminded him of a cross between rotten meat and a barbeque. His sensing were fighting over whether he should be hungry or sick to his stomach. He continued towards the smell, as he got closer he saw what he thought was the back of a scarecrow.
His brain was telling him to turn and run away, but his hunger pains were convincing his legs to continue forward. Finally his stomach won out and he decided to move forward.
As he got closer to the scarecrow, the smell began to make Ray reminisce of all of the fourth of july barbecues he attended as a kid. When he finally reached the scarecrow, he walked out of the wheat/corn and into a small clearing.
He turned around to get a look at the front of the scarecrow and almost passed out at what he saw. It appeared to be a woman, dressed in nightgown stained in blood. Ray believed it was her blood, because the body was headless.
He began to walk backwards slowly as he continued to look in disbelief at the headless human scarecrow. Suddenly, he lost his balance as he tripped on a branch and landed on a mound of twigs and branches.
When Ray stabled himself, he noticed the branch he tripped on was not a branch at all, it was a human femur. As he slowly looked down to where his hand was resting on the mound, he noticed it was resting on a ribcage. He began to freak out and frantically try to get to his feet, this caused the mound of bones to begin to topple. The next thing Ray heard was the rustling of the wheat/corn on the other side of the clearing. Someone was coming and he didn’t want to be here when they got there.
He got to his feet and took off for the side of the clearing he entered from. He never knew his feet could move this fast. He didn’t want to look back to see who was chasing him, or more like his body wouldn’t allow it.
He could now hear “them” chasing him and not too far behind him. As he continued running, he began to hear music. “Reached out a hand to try again, I’m floating in a beam of light with you, A beam of light with you.”
Is that A Flock of Seagulls, Ray thought to himself, I am almost sure of it. Just then he tripped and when he hit the ground he woke up on the floor of the apartment, where this nightmare evening began. “And I ran, I ran so far away I just ran , I ran all night and day, And I ran , I ran so far away, I just ran , I couldn’t get away.” the music continued out of the radio which sat atop on the kitchen counter.
He lifted his head, and took a look around. The apartment was fully furnished, including the fish tank he noticed earlier. Why hadn’t he seen all of this before. He went to push himself up off the floor, when he noticed he was laying in a pool of blood.
He knew it wasn’t his blood and was afraid to find out whose it was. That is when he saw it, he couldn’t believe his eyes but after everything he has been through tonight nothing could surprise him anymore.
He sat up and got his bearing and started towards the object. He slipped a little as he moved towards it. Where did all this blood come from? When he got close enough to see what it was, he had to fight back the urge to throw up all over the place.
He couldn’t believe what he was looking at, it was Crazy Lucy’s head. Ray’s brain instantly flashed back to the headless scarecrow he saw. Wait? Was that real? What the hell is going on? Ray’s thoughts were rushing through his brain.
The next thought he had, made the most sense to him. He cleared the blood pool and ran out of the apartment as fast as he could. As he ran out the door and down the hall to the stairway leading back to his apartment. He didn’t even notice Mar standing at the other end of the hallway. Nor did he hear her blood curdling scream she let out as he was locking the final lock on his apartment door.
