Hi! I am Lizzi. I am a teacher, cat lover, a travel nowhere with out a camera kind of person. I think this story started when I was at primary school when we had to write some fiction based on an environmental topic. Having recently done a similar topic with my class I decided to restart and complete this story which has been growing inside of me, like a seed, for a little over 20 years.
After global warming and rising sea levels became impossible to slow or stop, and the depletion of all the non-renewable energy resources, the richest and most organised built deep underground facilities run from renewable power sources. Wars, famine, environmental disasters and terrorism covered what the sea had not yet claimed back.
Most of the surviving human race now lives underground in separated rabbit hole type facilities, where the suns powerful UV light will not burn them as the ozone layers have been destroyed. Rising sea levels means many facilities have been cut off, potentially flooded with massive further cost to human life. Surviving facilities run as best they can from renewable energy power stations which are now nearing the end of their working lives in the harsh conditions. Human’s faced finally with no other options are reducing, reusing and recycling to keep life alive on Earth.
The race is on to find new ways to power the remaining facilities, try to heal the planet Earth and fight the mysterious illness which is striking down seemingly healthy individuals. Is “The outside” as bad as the government make out or is it in fact much worse?
Amelia, her little brother George and her friend Zeela are determined to find out.
