Chapters:

Prologue

This world was born in ignorance, even in its mere infancy. It all began with the first of our kind, the day humanity was born. God in his all mighty power fashioned Adam from mere dust, giving him not only a name, but power over the Garden of Eden. He was to have dominion over all life within the garden, plants and animals alike. Ability to tend to the garden of god would be an honor for many a humble servant. Alas it was not meant to be for Adam.

While tasked to watch over this garden Adam was allowed to do all, but one thing. He was to never eat from the tree of knowledge for if he did, death shall surely befall him. Naturally Adam complies at first, naming all of the new formed animals yet longing for a true companion. God sensing this creates another, using Adam's own body for its creation. “Bone of my bones, flesh of my flesh, she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man.” Naturally that meant they were the same, two halves creating one single entity. Phrase often uttered during the conjoining known as marriage.

In this time innocence reigned supreme, neither was ashamed of who they were, standing together in harmony, bare and unclothed. This moment would be the last of such innocence as soon our true nature would reveal itself. Our lack of faith would doom us to the life we live today, temptation and disobedience consuming our very souls. Can we truly be blamed for failing such a monumental test? Perhaps we were destined to be this way from the start. Flawed yet loved.

Our fall was not all our own doing however, no; another played a role in shaping us. It was the serpent that set into motion the fall of man, jealous they had garnered the favor of the almighty while he was cast towards damnation. It is a feeling of inadequacy that has plagued this creature for centuries, fueling its determination to ruin man. This was but the first of its many acts to stamp us from existence.

Using cunning words of manipulation the serpent corrupted the woman now known as Eve. Convincing her that eating from the tree of knowledge would make her wise, placing her on even footing with God himself. Eve soon succumbed to the serpent's wishes, eating from the tree, becoming a pawn in the foul creatures plan. Eve now an agent of the serpent's chaotic nature convinced once loyal Adam to partake in the fruit.

It is then that they become aware of their nakedness, aware that it should be deemed a transgression. Swiftly they covered themselves in fig leaves, hiding from the sight of god, unaware of the true ramifications their actions would soon bring. On this day the serpent had garnered a small victory in a greater goal.

God being the all knowing questioned the pair on what they had done. Each deferred responsibility of the act, a trait that has become well known within humanity. The woman Thou gavest to be with me, she gave me the fruit of the tree, and I ate, so sayth the man. The serpent beguiled me and I ate, so sayth the woman.

God cursed the serpent "above all livestock," causing it to become an eternal enemy of the human race. A fact that over time became nothing more than a distant relic of the past. God punished the pair for their disobedience, condemning Adam to eat from the very ground he curse until he became one with the dust that once created him while Eve would be forced to create new life through painful childbirth. It is from here that traditional values were derived.

Adam and Eve soon gave birth to two notable children. Cain and Abel, their birth would mark another victory for the serpent. To quote Genesis 4, 1-8: ‘Adam knew his wife Eve intimately, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain. She said, "I have had a male child with the LORD's help."

Then she also gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel became a shepherd of a flock, but Cain cultivated the land. In the course of time Cain presented some of the land's produce as an offering to the LORD. And Abel also presented [an offering]— some of the firstborn of his flock and their fat portions. The Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, but He did not have regard for Cain and his offering. Cain was furious, and he was downcast.

Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you furious? And why are you downcast? If you do right, won't you be accepted? But if you do not do right, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must master it."

Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let's go out to the field."

And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.’

Cain would become the first murderer within our race, cursed from that day forward. Motive may never be clearly given within the contexts of the good book, but it is quite clear that the devious serpent once again played a role. Only he could turn brother against brother, feeding off the negative emotions that dwell within us. He had the power to bring out the worst in all of us. Unlocking our negative energy as you would a cupboard.

All of this was child's play compared to what was to come, merely a prelude to the distinct victory the serpent would soon enjoy. As time went on humanity began to forge its own path, becoming less reliant on god and far more so on their own ingenuity. Many even swore off god's existence entirely, choosing to believe that such entities didn't exist. It was an act that made them feel emboldened and if true belief did not dwell within, they felt it best to be honest on such things. How could a god exist if he has never been seen?

Our race began to become more and more violent, going as far as nations attacking nations, wars that would cost millions their lives over a mere disagreement. The more freedom we gained the worse our society became at its core. As our technology grew so too did our lack of faith in god. The word of god had been replaced with a facade. Going to church became a chore rather than a privilege and many outright stopped.

As our faith in god dwindled our souls began to open to the serpent and his minions. The lies we would tell ourselves everyday introduced us to him and him to us. His influence was everywhere, messages coded within nightmares, creating some of the world’s most heinous beings. His words of power corrupted any that dared to hear them. Many a soul had fallen into similar trapping as Eve had in the beginning.

The wars, genocides and cruel acts of man were only keys to a bigger plan. You see the serpent had long ago realized that he could not turn God's favor from humanity. He cared far too greatly for his creations. Knowing that his corruption could do no further damage he turned his eyes to a new plan. He of all people knew that God would be unwilling to intervene directly if a conflict were to rise nor would he risk an open war within the world of humanity. God would trust his creations to fend for themselves thus proving their worth.

With this knowledge in hand he carefully put into motion a plan that would once and for all show how weak and pathetic humanity truly was. He would conquer by any means necessary, showing to god who was truly deserving of the almighty’s faith. Humanity would become slaves to his childish need for approval. If only we had seen the signs sooner, perhaps we could have avoided the world’s current plight.
