Return to Neverwhen is a take on the classic "Children’s" movies of the 1980s, I use quotations because as any 80s kid remembers, those movies were pretty dark for their time, and we still watched and loved them.

Back in the 80’s a group of kids had a magical adventure after getting transported to the fantastical realm of Neverwhen, a place outside of time, space, and logic.  They saved the realm from evil forces, and then returned home in time to save their own neighborhood from being torn down, all from within the pages of a book.

Now it’s 30 years later, and the group is getting killed by something or someone from their past, and it’s going to take a lot more than childhood imagination to save their world this time.

I kind of see the book as a mashup of The Neverending Story, The Goonies, Return to Oz, and Watchmen, with a more actual feel for the story than just a lot of pop culture references, though there will be some for sure.  But I don’t want it to feel like an Ernest Cline novel.   I’m still sketching out the characters, but I’ll add more as I go along.
