For the past 13 years, I’ve served as a US Army officer. I’ve seen a lot of my Soldiers deploy into combat with me and then return home, only to find that the world didn’t stop moving just because they were gone to combat for 12 or 16 months.
With RAGE, I had the chance to explore the idea of returning home after a war, knowing that characters like Sergeant Vega will never be truly civilized again, especially not after being introduced to the Rage Virus.
This book also produced some of my favorite quotes:
"When I was young my parents used to read fairy tales to me, the stories of knights in shining armor saving damsels from fire-breathing dragons. I wanted so much to grow up to become a knight in shining armor. Except I didn’t. I became the fire-breathing dragon. Instead of being the thing people ran to when they were afraid, I was the thing that they were scared of."
Rage started off as a self-published novel and though most of my other books were eventually picked up by a publisher, Rage never was because it was "too violent and too gritty." Those are the exact reasons I love it, and hope that you will, too.
