Playing God hits all the right notes in its first two chapters - an intriguing and original mix of high tech and high fantasy, interesting characters with a lovely array of zany quirks, and some lovely turns of phrase by an author who clearly has a strong handle on his work. I let out several genuine laughs while reading, and I hope to continue doing so as the book develops.
