Hey Everyone,

Well, we’ve come to the end of the PIPERVERSE campaign on Inkshares. I see a number of writers here asking for and being granted an extension to their preorder funding period…I won’t be doing that. In the next couple of days, Piperverse will fall out of "Preorder funding" into a "Draft" status and everyone who preordered a book (or three--Thanks, Matt!) will get their money refunded to them.

I was hoping my middle grade science fiction comedy opus would catch a bit more fire back in the Nerdist contest. That was not the case, and afterwards my resolution to keep hitting for one of the publishing goals kinda faltered. Through sweat and miracles the most likely publishing level I might achieve is Quill…the no-frills basic publishing deal, with no editorial or marketing help and no publisher heft in pushing it forward…and I didn’t want that. I’ve been published before, by a small publishing house, and I know the amount of effort needed to push a book when the publisher has little strength, I’m not ready to try to sell a book with no publishing push at all.

SO I’m going to take my book, give it some close, hard re-examining, and figure out what’s next. I have a notion to cut it into two or three separate books and make it a more acceptable length to the middle grade agents and publishers out there (AND give each book more room for illustrations!) We’ll see.

But this campaign has been fun! I had an ABSOLUTE BLAST being part of the Nerdist contest (and plan to enter one of the future Inkshares contests if I find the theme inspiring). I am DEEPLY thankful to all of you who preordered the book and/or helped to get the word out about it. Your kindness and generosity is deeply appreciated. And if any of you are truly disappointed that you won’t be getting a book…drop me a line and I’ll send you an ebook version. I would love all the beta readers and opinions I can get.

So I think the last thing I’ll be doing for Piperverse on Inshares for a while is to load one last sample chapter  -- Chapter 8: Reading, ’Riting, and Rudimentary Xenopsychology (one of my favorites, take a peek!)--and close up shop here for a while.

This is not the end for Piperverse, just another step in the road. Big thanks to all of you for taking it with me.

I’m thankful to the Inkshares staff for making this opportunity possible. And to all you Inshares writers plugging away to get your books published: GO! GO! GO! I envy your energy and hunger and wish you the best of luck.

Thanks!

Rhett

Hey Everyone!

Just a quick note that I’ve loaded a new sample chapter of PIPERVERSE, Chapter 5 - Beach Party On The Moon   (In it, my little "space opera" finally gets to space!) As always, comments welcome (preorders too...hint, hint.)

Good luck to everybody who’s thinking about entering the upcoming Inkshares/Geek And Sundry Writer’s Contest! (I think they announce the theme tomorrow.)

And finally, for those who celebrate it... ...for those who don’t, have a lovely Sunday.

The contest is over...the campaign continues. With great sincerity, to all of you who have pre-ordered PIPERVERSE so far...

Hey, folks. We’ve come to the the last day of the Nerdist Space Opera Book Contest. As of this writing, my book PIPERVERSE has an iron grip on ranking #23. Unless the folks at Nerdist.com suddenly go crazy and change the rules of the contest to award their publishing deals to the top 23 spots, my little space book will not be crowned a champion at this time.

This is not the end! This contest was a shortcut to greatness, but greatness is still achievable. I will still be pushing PIPERVERSE here on Inkshares for the next few months and hope to reach the goals that will get it published. Please keep recommending it to all the bookworms in your social circles.

I want to thank all of you who have pre-ordered the book so far...and I must say I was blown away by all of you who bought the book this past week! That sudden surge of support was a true delight!

So...onward! More sample chapters to come. More strange Character Cards to see. More shameless nagging directed at all of you who HAVEN’T bought the book yet. More, more, more...

Thanks again, everyone! I’ll end this update with a new Piperverse Character Card (#5 - The Mindworm)...with a quote that just might serve as a fortune cookie message for the future.

The last couple of days have been amazing! Deep thanks to all the new folks who have pre-ordered PIPERVERSE (and you old folks, too!)

I’ve uploaded a new sample chapter: "Chapter 4 - Bzzt!"  Please take a peek at your leisure here  --notes and nitpicks welcome!

The Nerdist Writer’s Contest portion of this campaign is coming to a close March 15th! If you know of any book lovers of the science fiction and/or upper middle grade persuasion, please point them towards https://www.inkshares.com/books/piperverse  (And take a look at the other contest entries, too! There’s some great stuff out there.)

Thanks, people!

And here’s what SHOULD HAVE been Piper Collector’s Card #2.

With a week to go in the Nerdist contest, I think it’s safe to say that my little "Girl vs. Universe"  book has not dominated the competition. While it is not impossible for me to add 200+ buyers to my current 20 in this final week, I do grant that it is somewhat unlikely.  I’ve been staring way up at the same top four authors for a while now, watching their campaigns with approval,  and believe they are all fine books and wish them good luck in jostling for the top three spots as the finish line looms.

So I’m settling in for the long campaign. I’ll keep loading sample chapters, doodling Character Cards, and pestering friends and loved ones until they want to throttle me. Eventually, here or elsewhere, Piperverse will be a book.

But what I want now are eyeballs. Specifically, YOUR juicy, succulent eyeballs!

Fellow Inkshares folk, I haven’t participated at all in the whole "trading pre-orders" thing…I’m sorry, I simply can’t afford it (and I’ve yet to figure out how to do the whole "get credits for your recommendations" deal, probably to my great detriment.) But I want to be part of the community, and I want feedback on the chapters I post: Good, Bad, Nitpicky--I’ll take it all…and it’s about time I put some time in to get it. So, what I’m offering in trade is my eyes for yours. Review my stuff, make little comments and notes, recommend me to folks who LIKE making little comments and notes, and I will happily do the same for you and yours.

And since the posts that get the most response on Inkshares seem to be the ones with dogs in them...

Presenting...Piperverse Collectible Card #4: Mop

Piperverse Collector’s Card #3: The Emperor

I like to pester quietly...with pictures.  (Collect them all!)

It’s WAY past time I put some more chapters of PIPERVERSE up, so here we go…

Tonight, I am uploading Chapter 2 (The Laughing Sky) and Chapter 3 (Dangerous Minds) to my book samples. This completes the first section of my book in which we meet my protagonist Piper Lobe and her Uncle Seven. Starting next chapter, things get dangerous and cosmic (Coming soon! Watch this space!)

I realize we are now deep in the Nerdist contest and a lot of you folks have already spent all you can on other writers’ works. I humbly request that if you find any more coins or credits in those pockets of yours, you might consider throwing them at me for a preorder. (If you are truly tapped, please recommend me to all of your rich friends!) And, hey, I would LOVE any feedback, good, bad, or indifferent, on what I post here. PIPERVERSE will be a book someday…I’d love your input to make it a great, surprising, hilarious one. (For instance, Chapter 2 has always been the one I’m the least sure of. I welcome all thoughts.)

PIPERVERSE is basically my Pixar movie…with loads of Doctor Who and Terry Pratchett thrown in for rich, spicy flavor.

But here I am writing too much of this nonsense when what I want you to read are the new chapters. Please do!

All the best,  Rhett
