Hi! Thanks for dropping by. I’m Brock, an aspiring children’s fantasy author. Welcome to my early draft!
Out of the Ordinary is about Emily, a girl who gets home from school to find that her father has been murdered. She, too, is killed, only to find herself walking in the door again. Naturally, she’s confused, so when a lawyer (who’s also a hedgehog) turns up to explain things, she’s happy to go along. They venture into the Extra Ordinary, a place that seems to be the setting for any given storybook. Emily dies some more. Turns out, her dad used to be the Curator of this dangerous, whimsical place-- a job she doesn’t understand and stands to inherit. Of course, there are others who want the Curatorship--people with more resources, more wisdom, and more power than Emily can muster. She just wants to go back to life as normal, but the chances of that are slim, and the guy who keeps stabbing her doesn’t help. Will she learn to manage to duties of a Curator? Can she avoid dying long enough to figure out what’s going on? And who is that guy with the sword, anyway? Let’s find out.
This story evolved from the idea of someone constantly resetting time through a movie-like mechanic. Since then, I’ve added a few things--a plot, for instance, and some characters, and an ample dose of foreshadowing.
Constructive feedback is much appreciated. There’s room for improvement, to be sure, so please ask any questions you have-- if you’re confused, I need to know; if you’re interested, I’d like to know; and if you’re disgusted, I’m sorry, but you’ll need to say something more specific if it’s to be of any use.
Thanks!
