Ordinary Sun is a story that’s been in my head for years. I wouldn’t have had the emotional intelligence to write it when I first thought of it. It’s the kind of story I couldn’t tell until now. It’s about missed connections, reconnections, family, grief, and hope.

What makes it unique is an unflinching look at sorrow, depression, and emotional self-destruction. A dual timeline structure shows readers the lasting effects of trauma. It shows who the characters are, but also who they were before.

It does this all with powerful, gut-wrenching emotional honesty. It also does it with a dry sense of humor and a genuine sense of hope.

Every writer believes they are telling life changing stories. At the same time, we refuse to believe we’re capable of such things. We think we’re deserving of the reader’s attention, but somehow undeserving at the same time.

It’s difficult to believe in yourself sometimes. Today, I believe in myself. I hope you believe in me too. This InkShares campaign is sort of a Hail Mary situation. A longshot. But I’m confident in my work, and I think it can be helpful and meaningful to a lot of people.
