I’m a small town lawyer who watched the gas field boom unfold from afar. The idea was formed from an amalgamation of social media posts from classmates and acquaintances who spurned formal education in favor of jumping into the workforce related to this new gas boom.
I don’t take issue with people spurning higher education in favor of working, school is not for everyone. I take issue with the brazen and arrogant action of posting your very large paycheck on social media then falling silent after the bust.
A lot of people don’t see the other parts of Pennsylvania where there are a lot of frustrated, uneducated, and mostly white people that do not seem to make the connection between their championing of this new industry and the even more rapid decline of their small towns.
