Introduction: The Creation of a Siren

Drowning is not a method of death that I would recommend. The panic induced lack of oxygen, rushing water in your lungs, and the general pain that only comes from your body realizing that what is happening is not meant to be. Yet, it was how I ended my human life. You may think that this is not the place where I should start this adventure with. Yet, the moment my brother killed me, was where my life truly exploded into color.

They say that it is unlucky to have a woman board a ship. The “they” in this story are men who do not realize the evil that they unleash upon the world with this school of thought. When a man purposely drowns a woman at sea, a darker force is created. When this occurs, a creature known as a Siren is born. These are not the seashell bra-wearing maidens of a Bard’s Ballad. They are horrifying nightmares borne of revenge and pain.

This curse is eats away at the maiden’s humanity like a vulture picking at a fresh corpse. The mind is pummeled with insatiable feelings of rage and injustice. These urges can only be satisfied with the sensation of your fingers wrapped around the neck of the man who doomed you to this fate. But what is left, after his warm pulse stops under your grip? The pain never goes away, and all that’s left is a feeling of loss.

For most, they cannot give up the hunt, and seek to drown men, in hopes that the right amount of lives collected will give them peace. This is where the legends of beautiful mermaids luring sailors to the rocks with alluring melodies comes from. By now, dear listener, I hope that you would be able to predict that fairytales are rarely fact. The true evil nature of this affliction is not the immediate transformation. It is the addiction to the madness. The deeper a Siren succumbs to the pull of murder, the further she strays from a sinless existence, the more monstrous she becomes.

With every kill and rush of dopamine, the scales on her body multiply. Eventually, over time, what was once a chaste woman of virtue, has now mutated into a creature of only the darkest nightmares. Where the mind goes, the body follows. Very few Sirens recognize the danger of the enslavement to the curse. It takes a great deal of will and pain to resist your new nature.

This is only a small part of my story. However, I felt that it was the most important to start with. This is so you, the onlooker, can understand my situation. Here we begin with the tale of how I lost my humanity, on what was meant to be the most joyous day of my life. The day of my wedding.
