Inasmuch as this ship was the only one to leave the earth before the explosion, the crew can perform an agreement between them to be the rulers of the small amount of the new colony population, thus creating a new order - authoritarian -, different from that established case all ships managed to escape Earth and not as few as this ship.
I think this is interesting. I’d like to see where it goe, and what they’ll do.

In 20 words or less is a little hard to describe an idea. But I see where you’re going with it. Other than space opera, are you thinking about making it more like drama, comedy, terror? I would definitely give it a shot! Good luck!
