Discussion

With a week to go and 190 orders short of the mark, it’s time to announce Last Call on the NEAR THE BORDERLINE campaign. I’ve spread notices on Facebook and had some print exposure, but have seen very little in the way of comments, reviews, or referrals in the Inkshares space, where the all-important word-of-mouth sales are made.

One final strategy is in the works: I have a number of Russian acquaintances with advanced computing skills, and well... ’nuff said for now.

Whatever happens, thanks again for your support, and I’ll keep you posted on the fate of the book.

Dear Readers,

A new excerpt from NEAR THE BORDERLINE is scheduled to appear in the February issue of 1000 Islands Life, an online magazine based in Gananoque, Ontario. My thanks to editor Susan Smith for giving  the book an appropriate cross-border presence!

Visit http://www.thousandislandslife.com/ for details.

Dear Readers,

I want to thank you for supporting my Inkshares project, NEAR THE BORDERLINE, and update you on its progress. The campaign is now nearing the half-way point, and with 54 orders to date, much remains to do to reach the minimal threshold of 250 by March 12.

Because crowd-funding represents a new and inherently speculative method of launching books, traditional means of publicity aren’t readily available. Without an actual book in hand, newspapers are disinclined to promote such projects on the basis of excerpts alone, and as powerful a medium as the internet is, one-to-one communication remains the best kind of advertising there is.

Accordingly, anything you could do to help spread the word would be much appreciated. The link to my page is: https://www.inkshares.com/books/near-the-borderline-18a4a5 and if indeed you find anything to admire about the work, my characteristic modesty wouldn’t be offended if you shared an accolade or two along with the URL.

Please be assured that the manuscript is complete and that any and all pre-order charges will be refunded in the event the campaign misses its goal. Otherwise, I remain hopeful that, one way or another, the book (both soft-cover and electronic editions) will be available sometime this summer.

Thanks again for being a part of this,

Dave Inglehart

I’ve recently updated the excerpt on NEAR THE BORDERLINE to include the whole of the first chapter. More to come soon. Visit https://www.inkshares.com/books/near-the-borderline-18a4a5 to read, comment or pre-order.
