Raphael Ochoa never wanted to be a vampire.
Life was always about food, and not the O negative he needed to drink to survive. When he stumbles on the chance to open up his first restaurant in downtown Phoenix, Raphael feels like for the first time in his undead life, food and the vampire might be giving him the chance to have the life he squandered as a human.
That is until the police come calling on a fully booked Friday night for questions about the murder of his own maker and mentor, Gabriel del Cielo.
Life as a chef only seems less attainable when a band of demonic soldiers attack him at the police station, searching for the ancient Staff of the Archangels. Raphael escapes, narrowly, thanks to the help of Gabriel’s former guardian angel, Orphanium.
Orphanium confesses to Raphael that Gabriel was the guardian of the relic, which is foretold to play a deciding role in the final battle between good and evil. Raphael is the last link to Gabriel to find the Staff. The world’s first vampire is hunting for the Staff, and he won’t stop until he has it.
Raphael always preferred being a chef to a vampire. Now, he must decide whether hiding from his destiny in favor of the human life he has longed for is worth sentencing humanity to one final dinner reservation with its own Armageddon.
