Updated new and improved first chapter. What will Ivor sacrifice to get what he wants? Find out in the first chapter of The Midnight Cure titled The Contract!

The journey was almost over.

Ivor and Caeyu looked in the distance to Fàitois, the grandest dwelling of the Seelie Fae Queen Titania. Excitement was swelling Ivor’s chest and into his arms. Even from here, he could see at the center of  Fàitois was Jera, the largest tree in this world and the next, her twisting trunk rising out to steel branches which each held different bunches of leaves in varying colors and shapes. Nuts and fruits fell daily to feed the folk that worshiped the land. Her roots waved in and out of the ground to form shelter above and curled below to make burrows. Legend had it Jera was born from lightning that struck a lonely spirit and that she burst from fresh dirt to form the seven rivers that fed her.

She wasn’t just awe inspiring for her beauty alone. Jera was also the most powerful natural source in all the Borealis, capable to perform miracles even the Fae had never conceived.

Or so Ivor’s instincts hoped.

Now 40,000 words into the new manuscript of The Midnight Cure, I have updated the first chapter to reflect the progress the story has made. This is the best start to this book yet and I am very excited to share it with you all. If you read my previously posted three chapters, thank you so much. I hope everyone enjoys this new first chapter as we start out in the magical otherland of the Borealis.

The journey was almost over.

Well, the title has changed again for a new and third draft, so welcome everyone to The Midnight Cure.

I think this is going to be it, and then begins the huge undergoing of editing.  Kinks have been hammered and worked out in subsequent drafts 1, 1.5, and 2. Once I’m about a fourth way through this I’ll start posting (though not consecutive) chapters. My goal is 5000 words a week and I intend to not let up until December when I expect to finish.

As an aside, my artist sent me more sketches for the cover, and this time it came with characters! From left to right: Violet, Ivor, Aerinetta.

Violet is an Indigenous American, next in line for the title of Ayana, and is a prodigy in her generation of magi. Due to the unscene consequences of saving Ivor’s life as a child, she now must become his Master and teach him the power of magi. This on top of living a double life, deciding what she wants from her future, and mending the relationship with her sisters has, in her opinion, made her life a drag.

Ivor has spent seven years in the Borealis searching for a cure to immortality.  With all his attempts ending in failure by using folk magic, he’s begrudgingly returned to Earth. His identity, purpose, and true power must all be kept secret if wants to keep those around him alive.

Aerinetta is one of Ivor’s Guardians and has believed in his fight against fate since day one. She hasn’t seen him in years and is unsure of the man he’s become while being in the land of Fae. She fears the day she may learn of something that is irreversible, and must preform her duty as an Angel of Death.

If any of my characters interest you, there’s many more in The Midnight Cure full of magic and secrets! Check out my prequel chapters if you haven’t already, and happy writing!

Small things are so exciting to amateur writers, and though these updates perhaps are tiny to some they are marvelous to me.

First of all, I changed the title again because I suck at titles and perhaps will keep forever changing them until they are set in paper. But if titles are my greatest weakness as a writer (coughbesidesspellingcough) then I suppose that is a weakness I can well work on with time, feedback, and someone yelling at me to stop.

Second update, my spring semester is over and I’m excited to work on the 2/3 of my manuscript. Currently I have the three beginning chapters up and my plan from here on out is to put one or possibly two star chapters from each of the core four sections: Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring. Now obviously there will be jumps and things won’t necessarily be fully understood by moving around, but I believe it will give people a chance to see not only the scope of my project but get a sense of who my characters are. Plus the intrigue, if I lay my cards right, I think will get people excited! But hey, that’s what we all dream of, right?  Someone else enjoying the ideas we have in our heads come to life on the page?

SPEAKING of things coming to life from my head my commissioned artist sent me a rough sketch of the cover I’d like for this website and I’m so excited! Benny has been wonderful to work with thus far and if anyone likes the finished product I highly recommend her work and you can always check out her stuff here. Obviously I’m not paid to promote her, I’m paying her to make a piece for me that is both used to gain attention here and fill my ego by seeing my characters. Here’s the sketch of the background thus far.

Thank you everyone for their time thus far and I hope you are doing well with your own projects!

I’m excited as I have commissioned an artist for a cover! I hope everyone will enjoy the piece when it’s finished within two weeks. The artist is Benny and they have a wonderful shop here if anyone is interested in her art!

As a person who’s terrible at titles, I have updated mine! Hopefully I stick to it, as I often second guess when it comes to naming things.

@Glenn J. Hill thank you so much! I’m currently a fourth the way through (about 24000 words) and I’m polishing some earlier chapters so they can be posted here soon!
