Greetings! I’m Jay Katana, and Mickel the Jaglorian Vagabond is my idea for the long awaited sequel to my debut space comedy Edgar of Earth.
You see, Jaglore is essentially the most pristine planet in the galaxy. Its inhabitants, so thoughtful and caring towards one another, and its scientists so advanced, that they’ve conquered all forms of disease and danger. The skies are littered with helicopters, peering down on the population like overbearing parents, tracking every movement below, preventing anything untoward from ever happening, ever. There is no conflict on Jaglore. There is no hunger. No aching need from any Jaglorian citizen whatsoever that is not instantaneously met by particle constructors, beam-wave oscillators, or Auntie Jinnie’s homemade custard pies.
In other words, it’s boring as hell.
But the Jaglorians, by and large, are oblivious to that fact, because they’ve lived under this veil of comfort and safety for centuries. They know nothing else. They would never know anything else, in their quiet corner of the galaxy, except for one simple fact -- one day, Mickel was born, and he was born with a deformity of the brain. A variance, and obtrusion deviating sharply from the statistical mean making up of all of Jaglore. You see, Mickel was born a vagabond. The only one Jaglore has ever seen.
This is the story of Mickel’s wandering ways, where, despite the pleas from his friends and family, despite the stern Jaglorian governmental warnings bidding him do anything and everything to the contrary, Mickel leaves Jaglore in favor of exploring the great unknown. The that that’s out there. The first Jaglorian to leave the planet in over 2000 years. This is a story of a fish out of water, using his fins to crawl over dry sand in search of a new promise, a new pond. This is the story of Mickel, finding his own voice, owning his own fears, and falling headfirst into becoming the most Jaglorian person the galaxy has ever seen.
"At least he’s wearing a helmet," his parents would say, "at least he’s wearing his helmet."
This is Mickel’s journey. Will you join me in making it extraordinary?
Thank you, and safe travels!
