Synopsis

Her life was supposed to be one of joy.

As a shapeshifter, Makayla has the simultaneous advantages of knowing exactly how her life shall proceed, and the sheer power to ensure that it does - and the fact that she was created to find fulfillment only in obedience and slavery bothers her not one whit. Were it up to her, she would live a long, comfortable life, with no thoughts or concerns beyond the will of her master, and she would never have the least regret.

But pain and loss have a way of following Makayla around, and soon she is forced to acknowledge that the happy life she imagines will never come to be. Thrown away and abandoned, dragged into a war between forces she doesn’t understand, and pursued on all sides by those who would use her for their own ends, she must learn to see herself not as a tool for others to use, but as an individual, no matter how harshly this goes against her instincts. But Makayla will have to reconcile her own unique personality with her submissive instincts, or watch as the world around her pays the price.

Background

Makayla’s story is one of many that have been swimming around in my head for years, but it is by far the one I treasure most. So much so that I avoided writing it for most of my life, until I was confident enough in myself as a writer that I felt I could do it justice. This project, currently an unfinished standalone novel, is written in the hope that others will get as much from her story as I have.

I appreciate your visit to my humble novel. If anything about Makayla or her story speaks to you, your vote would go a long way towards helping others get to know her as well.

Thank you,

Jonathan Hygh
