Destroyer Mustang

Star date 50.02.514:

The bright white destroyer class spacecraft Mustang sporting the classic Red Line Army red stripe along the top of its hull is patrolling the border between Forbidden Space and Terran Space when it receives an automated alert from one of the border protection sentries. The bridge of the vessel is a regimented as the army it belongs to, bright and sterile with a minimalist function over form design. The consoles and chairs alike are bright white with red highlights.

“Captain we are receiving an automated alert from a nearby sentry.” The operations officer announces sitting at her station behind and to the right of the captain.

“Helm, take us to the sentry maximum speed.” Captain Kerr orders calmly. “This is Captain Kerr to ship wide. Report to combat stations.”

The destroyer opens a hyperspace jump portal and ups its engines to max, rocketing forward threw the portal and in to hyperspace a turbulent dimension made primarily by the gravitational forces that hold the galaxy together. The dimension allows fast travel threw out the galaxy but unlike normal space it is far from empty and you can be washed away in its tides if you’re not careful.

“Captain we have reached hyperspace and are pushing the engines to maximum safe limits. Estimated time to target is 22 minutes.” Pilot announces.

“Operations, any more details about what is going on at the sentry?” captain Kerr questions.

“No sir, the signal was cut off right after it started.” Operation officer replies.

“That’s not a good sign. Security, make sure we have a couple breach ships ready as well as fighters.” Captain Kerr orders.

“Yes Captain.” Chief of security responds.

“Captain we are now within sensor range. I am picking up a leviathan class carrier, markings on the hull match that of the revolutionary pirate group Talyn also five Acima life signs inside he sentry.” Operations officer announces.

“Captain that is no ordinary leviathan, not only is it five times our size the main hulls armor has been increased, the main multi directional cannons that run along the top and bottom spine have been upgraded and they have added high yield torpedo tubes along both sides of the ship. It might look like a giant whale but it is a flying fortress.” The chief of security reports.

“Are you telling me we cannot take them in a fight?” Captain Kerr questions.

“No Captain, we can take them. We are far more maneuverable and have a higher energy output. What I am saying is if they put up a fight we will take one hell of a beating. Sir!” Chief of security says confidently.

Captain Kerr turns to his first officer Frye. “Take one of the breach ships and kill the intruders. If we are lucky once they are dead the leviathan will cut its losses and leave, I’m betting the Talyns don’t want to lose that impressive ship of theirs.” Captain Kerr orders.

“Of course captain.” Commander Frye responds before getting up and leaving the bridge.

“We will keep the fighters onboard unless things start to go bad, I don’t want them turning in to cannon fodder. Chief, pick the sweetest target on that ship you can find and as soon as we are in weapons range fire everything we have, no pulling punches. Helm, keep us moving fast, evasive and don’t get to close. I want to dodge as much of their fire as we can.” Captain Kerr orders.

“Yes Captain!” Chief of security responds firmly.

“Yes Captain.” the pilot responds.

Frye goes down to the shuttle bay and walks up the ramp in to the breach ship to see the assembled assault team. Brook an impressive but tiny (shape shifter) with well defined muscles is sitting up front at the weapons station. A very rough looking Genson a fellow (gifted) is sitting at the helm. Fiona a (mage) who looks more like an engineer then she does a warrior is sitting in one of the drop seats with Josuf a bulky baby faced Ryujin sitting next to her.

“Genson, get out of my seat!” Commander Frye orders aggressively.

“Yes Commander.” Genson says quickly getting up and moving to the seat next to Josuf.

The Mustang reaches weapons range and unleashes a barrage of high yield energy pulse blasts and torpedoes at the leviathan’s life support and weapons systems. The leviathan returns fire as a sea of explosions is created between the two ships as their attacks hit one another but some from both sides end up getting through. Using the explosions as cover the breach ship piloted by Commander Frye and an assault team head for the sentry station. The faster more maneuverable Mustang manages to dodge most of the incoming fire, still taking some hits to its armor. The slow practically unmovable leviathan however takes a hit from every blast that manages to make it through the sea of explosions between the two ships.

The leviathan’s bridge is clearly still under construction with open access panels on the walls, missing chairs and some control consoles still under construction. The size of the bridge matches the ship with a circular module design. In the middle of the bridge are three chairs in a crescent moon alignment with the center chair being the captains. Forward and to the right is a module of three weapons stations in a circle where all seats backs are to each other. To the Forward left is a mirrored station for operation officers. Behind the captain’s chair are two more modules that have seats for security officers and engineers ready to fix situations as soon as they happen and front center is a twin seat helm station.

Onboard the bridge of the leviathan her Chief of security Franklin turns to Captain Victor.

“Captain we are taking heavy damage to our life support systems and a Red Line Army breach ship has reached the Sentry. This was meant to be a stealth mission, not combat. The ship is just not combat ready yet. Chances of us winning this fight are slim and even if we do more of the line will show up.” Chief of security Franklin says concerned.

A look of pure rage comes over the face of the captain.

“Helm take us out of here maximum speed.” Captain Victor commands before looking over at specialist Grimes. “You guaranteed me we would be undetected yet we obviously were and I have lost five good men!” Captain Victor shouts. “Not to mention the Line has gotten a good look at our new ship! Security grab specialist Grime and vent him out in to hyper space.”

“But sir I can make this..” Grime says before one of the security officers shuts him up by breaking his jaw with a club.

On board the Sentry Frye’s team has made their way to main engineering’s top level. Looking down over a banister Frye takes note of the five pirates bellow.
“Listen up every one. There are three pirates on the level bellow us trying at get access to the systems and two more on the ground level. That means there are five of them and five of us so in the interest of time, pick a dance partner and take them down quick.” Frye orders before leaping over the banister and tackling a male pirate on the ground level quickly followed by the rest of the team each picking their targets except Genson who is the last one over the banister so has to go after the only unpaired pirate.

Frye (gifted) climbs up off the pirate and draws his saber moving into a combat stance. The pirate pushes himself off the ground doing a back flip away from Frye and draws his daggers. Frye charges the pirate eager to get this encounter over. Frye commits to a big swing attack that the pirate easily blocks with his left dagger while attacking with his right cutting Frye’s left arm causing him to quickly jump back. Realizing that the pirates are better than he expected and pissed about the cut fry decides to go all out and use his gift. He first forms a large amount of aura around his saber then he focuses his eyes on the aura as they turn red the aura turns to flames. Frye once again charges at the pirate sword held above his head for a power downward swing. The pirate crosses his blades to block the attack again but Frye has put so much aura in to the attack the flame blade slices through the daggers like hot butter before entering the pirate at his right collar bone and exiting with a sizzling burning sound from his left hip.

As Genson (gifted) falls through the air towards his partner she quickly takes her battle axe off her back and upswings it at Genson who barely manages to get his hammer in to a blocking position. The two weapons collide and send sparks of aura all around but Genson’s attack is too weak so he ends up getting thrown in to the wall. He quickly recovers getting to his feet and charges his partner again. Genson swings his hammer a second before she swings her axe making him think he is going to come out on top but the pirate forms solid aura around her left hand and blocks the hammer attack with brute strength. Her axe makes contact with Genson’s side, luckily the axe lacked the aura needed to do land a fatal hit. Instead Genson’s natural aura slowed down the axe leaving him with a bad cut in his side.

While falling down towards her target spear in hand Brook shifts in to her speed form hitting the ground running. Her target grabs his axe and preemptively swings it at where Brook will be but she easily blocks it with her spear. Even in her speed form her strength is clearly higher then this pirates so she goes for the smart attacks looking for an opening as they trade blows instead of wasting aura over powering him. Brook uses her enhanced speed to lunge with her spear in her right hand while grabbing the pirates axe by the handle just below the blade stopping the attack as the tip of the spear punctures the pirate’s heart. The pirate drops to the ground as Brook hears a familiar sounding scream and turns to see Genson take his last breath.
“No!” Brook screams pulling her spear out of the pirate, shifting to her hulk form and running at Genson’s killer, spear in her right hand and the dead pirates axe in her left.

Fiona being a (pill user) has a collection of totems mounted in a custom left forearm guard including the very rare totem “Nutron” which makes the user invulnerable for a short time. It is also one of the most aura hungry totems in existence. Fiona draws her broad sword and uses the hilt of her sword to activate the Nutron totem before attacking her target who pulls out a pair of daggers, extending their blades with solid formed aura. Fiona bets that the pirate does not know what the rare totem is and purposefully attacks with a big swing leaving her side open and the pirate takes the bait attacking her side not blocking her swing. The blades are stopped dead by the aura on her skin a second before Fiona’s attack hits,  giving the pirate time to realize he messed up just before she removes his head.

Brook charges the female pirate who killed Genson, her feet making the ground rumble like thunder. With no thought of aura conservation in her mind by the time she reaches the pirate she first attacks with her spear which the pirate amazingly manages to block with her axe and a lot of strength. Brook then swings the giant battle axe with her left hand using her spear to keep her opponents axe out of the equation. Seeing the axe headed at her side the pirate creates a plate of solid aura on her side to stop the attack but it is not enough to stop the axe just slow it down. The axe smashes the armor and slices in to the side of the pirate stopping just before reaching her spin. The pirate in immense pain drops her axe and when she does Brook gives her a look before running her spear through her head.

Josuf (Ryujin) lands right in front of his partner short sword drawn in mid air and attacks as soon as his feat hit the ground. The pirate easily dances around his attacks and does not even bother to draw his sword. Josuf keeps pressing the attack with swing after swing but he can just not land a hit and then all of a sudden the pirate goes on the attack kicking Josuf in the chest before drawing his sword. The two of them trade blows but the pirate is the first to draw blood cutting Josuf’s leg dropping him to the ground. The pirate swings way back getting ready for a lethal hit when a saber comes out of his chest and he spits blood. The saber disappears back in to his chest and the pirate drops to the ground reveling to Josuf that Frye was standing behind the pirate.

“Captain the leviathan has fired up its main engines and is moving away.” Operations officer announces happily.

“Good, let them go. Helm take us to the Sentry.” Captain Kerr commands before pressing a communication button on the arm of his chair. “Chief Engineer Blake, once Frye has secured the Sentry send in an engineering team to find out what they were doing and repair any damage.”

“Will do.” Chief engineer Blake responds.

Captain Kerr, Commander Frye and Chief Blake all walk into the main conference room and sit down at the large table.

“Any ideas what that was all about?” Captain Kerr questions. “The Talyns like to raid our basses to steal our tech for their revolution but I have never heard of them attacking a Sentry.”

“I don’t think they were attacking it, I think they were trying to find a way to get past the distortion barrier and enter forbidden space.” Chief Blake suggests.

“I agree, the pirates on the Sentry made sure to destroy their equipment with booby traps. Had we known the main ship would give up so easily we could have tried to capture a couple of them and question them.” Commander Frye adds.

“That’s a scary thought. Luckily they cannot shut down the field unless they take over one of our hyperspace stations and they are way too well manned for them to do that. Well I guess there is nothing else to do but send our findings and theories off to HQ and see what the future brings.” Captain Kerr says casually.
