Aphrodite’s Giant

This Aphrodite’s Giant (named after the goddess of love and beauty) was bred to be a snake killer! In 331 A.D. the Aphrodite’s Giants were sent to Cyprus by the boatload (from ports in Egypt) in-order to combat an infestation following a 40 year drought. The resulting change in climate made the already warm Mediterranean island prime real-estate for the pesky critters - whom ultimately became cat food. 1,200 years later, Aphrodite’s Giants are alive and well, but the snakes of Cyprus? Not so much.
