I’m a writer of films, but this is a story in me that I had to get out. As a half-Asian, half-white author, stories of East meets West have always intrigued me -- as has the fantasy genre.

I grew up playing tabletop fantasy RPGs and have over 100 published credits to my name in that industry, and made the segue into b-rated screenwriting in 2013.

I wanted to tell the (mis)adventures of Daylen Jagaro with the same pacing and structure as I would approach a screenplay. It took two volumes to complete (and both drafts are finished -- if this funds, I’ll set up Volume 2), and what I ended up doing was creating a vast world similar to Middle Earth meets Ancient China, with floating mountain cities, desert ships that ride on literal oceans of restless sand, and an ancient conspiracy that threatens to cast a land ravaged by a civil war into eons of darkness.

This is a world that humans share alongside elves, trolls, orcs, and dwarves; a world where magic is commonplace; and a world where good and evil struggle for supremacy.

Tonally, I’d say these novels are like the pulpy tales of INDIANA JONES, WILLOW, the MUMMY trilogy, or even the old Harryhausen SINBAD films. Fans of the FORGOTTEN REALMS novels will certainly enjoy these as well. Lots of levity, friendship, and of course, adventure!

I’ve uploaded the prologue and chapter one, which introduces the protagonist and gives you an idea of what his starting goal is (along with his flaw--which should give you an idea of what his emotional journey will be for the novel). Currently, only the Prologue is displayed (apparently you can’t display more than one sample chapter at a time...).

Perhaps later I can upload more, or even the prologue from Volume 2.

The art I uploaded for my avatar is by my friend Paul Tobin (of WETA, who has worked on such movies as the NARNIA films and THE HOBBIT and LORD OF THE RINGS), who designed this based on the setting and one of the characters in the book (Bei, the man of jade).
