Me. I’m a storyteller. I’ve been writing books and stories professionally since the mid-1980s. I’ve won awards for my short fiction and poetry, written for licensed properties like Star Trek Voyager, Stargate Atlantis, and White Wolf’s World of Darkness, and my novels Deep Blue, Nevermore – A Novel of Love, Loss & Edgar Allan Poe, and the series The DeChance Chronicles have met critical acclaim and sold a lot of books, but I am always hoping to stretch the boundaries. You can read all of Heart of a Dragon - book I of the DeChance Chronicles on Wattpad.com.

You can find out more about me at my website: http://www.davidniallwilson.com and on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/david.niall.wilson You can find out more about my own company, Crossroad Press, at our website, but it’s in the process of being rebuilt, so it’s not as active as I’d like: crossroadpress.com

Originally this story was born of my desire to write a "serial". I wanted to produce a book in parts, like a web series, or a TV program. What happened was that the characters came alive for me, and I lost site of the "serial" aspect and started believing in the story. Love it when that happens. This book is not completed. I am writing it slowly, but I’m going to open it up to pre-orders, and if the interest builds – as I hope it will – I will be finishing it rapidly. I am happy to interact with readers – love feedback – and hope to make a new niche for my work here. I own my own publishing company, but I am always looking for ways to stretch boundaries, and I think what Inkshares is doing – and HOW they are doing it – is new, fresh, and something I’d like to be part of.

Anyone interested in my other work can message or e-mail me. I am liberal with eBook review copies – authors live and die on reviews these days. Meantime, give the first couple of chapters of Hoods a read, and tell me what you think? Here’s a short breakdown.

Hoods is the story of four young men and women with remarkable abilities. They have one thing in common… they were born into bad situations with only themselves to rely on.

Eddie, who the others call “Shooter,” has an uncanny ability to hit targets. He can throw things, kick things… cause things to collide… all with incredible accuracy. He can be in the right place at the right time without thinking about it. He’s always wanted to do something with his talent, like baseball, but his home situation has not allowed it.

Bobby, nicknamed “Combo,” grew up with a father who is a mixed martial artist, down on his luck. A thrown fight early in his father’s career sent him over the edge into drinking and self-pity. One late night, using Bobby as a ‘sparring partner’ he hit the boy harder than he meant to. The shot snapped something into focus in Bobby’s head. He was suddenly able to anticipate his father’s moves, avoid punches, and deliver some of his own with precision.

“Cami,” short for Camouflage – not Chameleon, has survived the gang-ridden streets and frightening world of public school by blending. She can fit into any situation, disappear into a crowd, emulate another’s motions and gestures and – almost literally – not exist. She can walk through a crowded room without being noticed, or hide in plain sight.

The last of the group, and the glue that holds them together, is “Weaver.” Daughter of a professional gambler, she is a math prodigy with the ability to break the world around her into patterns. She can build or modify anything mechanical or electronic and her ability to predict outcomes by processing situations in her head is eerie. She is the catalyst – the one who provides equipment and purpose to the group. Her father is continually trying to draw her into his gambling schemes, but she fears being caught. She’s worked with him before, but does not want his life.

When a friend of Shooters comes to him for help, the group bands together and what follows is magic. Mikey has an older brother who is in a gang, and dealing drugs. He’s trying to get Mikey to join him – and the pressure is serious. When Cami manages to overhear what the gang is really planning, the four join forces to try and prevent it, putting them all in more danger than they’ve ever faced, and showing them inner strength they weren’t aware they possessed.

Hoods is the story of young heroes, and the future. Superhero fans will love this origin story – readers of all ages and tastes will love the characters, the story, and the message. Think Marvel’s Avengers meets Cory Doctorow’s "Homeland".
