Globe: A Novel of Shakespeare, Reggae, and Outer Space
The idea began as a Star Trek spoof, but ended up taking on a life of its own. I’ve always been fascinated with Shakespeare, and I’ve noticed that some people treat Shakespeare’s plays with a kind of religious reverence. So I thought, what if people actually incorporated Shakespeare’s work into an organized religion? And what if these people crash-landed on a planet and were isolated there for a while, And what if a hapless, out-of-work independent vessel got lost and ended up in orbit around this planet? And what if the navigational information required to help that vessel get where it’s going was hidden in a computer buried beneath the Shakespearean civilization’s capital city?
That’s pretty much the gist of it. Of course, there’s Reggae, a bit of Queen, some Ben Jonson, drugged strawberries, and a ship’s navigator with a prosthetic head. Naturally.
