Thanks to the development of a specialized hormonal implant, the biological need for humans to sleep has been all but eradicated. However, because of the effects of the implant on earlier generations, even those who forego the implant have lost the ability to dream. Without dreams, almost every form of art quickly ground to a halt. Books, movies, music, painting - anything requiring imagination has become a thing of the past.

The rich, however, still need some manner of entertainment so, of course, science obliged. They created a serum which induces a lucid dream state and the technology to record dream images and replay them directly into the viewers mind.

Citizens possessing with creative potential are offered the opportunity to become "artists". Most only create a reel or two before flaming out. Alexia’s mother, on the other hand, is very talented and became famous in the dream reel community almost immediately.

When she falls into a coma after a recording session, the Alexia is "recruited" to fill her mother’s place (under threat of poverty). What she discovers inside the studio, though, will spark a revolution.

Notes

Thank you for checking out my draft!
