Colonel Hawke Bakore is the Leader of Hawke’s Talons, one of the most respected private military companies among the empires, His retirement imminent, he begins to face the man he has become while being forced into going on one last mission to the Farstar Sector to investigate why several ships have been reported lost or missing.

A Little About The Galaxy:

The backdrop of this story is that of the four great empires, the Gadari Republic, the Rejai Empire, the Multani Confederation, and the reclusive Mandil, that spans the known galaxy. Three of these four great empires, in an effort to stave off full scale war, signed what is called "The PMC Accord" in which they chose to disband all their standing armies, save their Naval fleets, in favor of using Private Military Companies. The result was near constant border disputes and petty squabbles between empires using PMC’s as proxies. On the surface, it made war ’cleaner’, but the escalation of these conflicts have made the empires abandon exploration. Civilization, though advanced, has begun to stagnate and decline. Nearly three quarters of every emerging technology has its roots deeply set in some aspect of military warfare. Most feel that full scale war was never avoided, merely averted, and is once again an inevitable conclusion that is quickly nearing reality.

One of the most important aspects of this book, to me, is that I can make it somewhat authentic in terms of its military action, and the emotional touchstones it hits. While I felt the need to stylize some action sequences to make the story entertaining, I’ve researched as much as I feasibly could, learning a lot about the dangers of space travel, the physics of it, and also through interviewing a few of the military veterans I know on small squad and CQB tactics, as well as what being in a firefight is like.

Who am I:

I’m glad you asked! I grew up with Star Wars, Star Trek, J.R.R. Tolkien, and many others. Whether it be book or film, I enjoy a good story that challenges your perspective on things, and makes you think. I have written, and shared, stories since I can remember, and even the occasional poem, but I’ve never been published. At the end of the day, I just like telling a good story.

I grew up in a family of blue collars and a military tradition. Though I was unable to serve due to a couple of birth defects as a result of my Dad being exposed to Agent Orange in vietnam, it was not for lack of desire. Now, I am a software engineer that continues to write stories on the side, and is a fan of the show "Critical Role," on Geek & Sundry’s Twitch TV Channel.

My Dad is one of the people I am writing this in honor of. I sat down with him a couple of times asking him questions about Vietnam. To be honest, I hadn’t intended on asking him the more difficult questions, but as interviews do, the topics tended to wander a bit, and before I knew it, my Dad would give me tear-filled accounts of his experiences - things I have never heard before. I tried to capture a lot of the emotion he described in some of this book’s action sequences. I only pray I do it justice...
