This is a novel about the potential of probiotics, beyond yogurt.

After a series of rejections from medical schools, Emerson is approached by the grandiose Amos Culliford with an offer to pursue graduate school at the unheralded but impressive Quedah Institute. Upon his arrival, he discovers that his fatal genetic condition makes him the ideal candidate for an experiment where bacteria are infused into the bloodstream in order to fend off the deterioration of his brain and sustain his cognitive ability. Unbeknownst to Emerson, he is not the first subject. Dr. Darren Lejeune, one of the foremost experts in coral microbiology, has stumbled onto one of the instances where the bacterial experiment killed its unwitting subject. Meanwhile, Jeremy Pierson is trying to make sense of his recent disappearance and heightened physical abilities when he is kidnapped once again. Their stories collide on the island of Singapore, where they find that the events have been orchestrated by a shadowy cabal comprised of the most powerful and affluent people in the world. The cabal’s ambition has implications for all of humankind, but they have miscalculated how the bacterial cocktail will affect its recipients, particularly in regards to their efficient henchman, Carter Slade.
