I’m a landscape architect and and I’ve written a book in my field. This book sums up my experience in integrating Asimina triloba (L.) Dunal, commonly known as the pawpaw, into the green spaces of Baia Mare, a city in northern Romania. I became convinced that introducing the species into the local climate would help beautify the city’s green spaces. A good part of my work involved getting the plant accustomed to conditions in the city, as well as selecting plants that would fit in with the pawpaw in ornamental displays. Given the rarity of this species in Europe, and especially in Romania, I think my work has benefited area residents, as well as opened up further possibilities for research into the pawpaw.
The first chapter analyzes the natural conditions in which my study took place. The second describes the history of landscape architecture in Romania. The third describes and amply illustrates the current landscaping situation in the parks of Baia Mare. The fourth describes the difficult germination process of the pawpaw, as well as its biological and ecological aspects. The fifth enumerates my research objectives in cultivating the plant.
I think readers would be interested in finding out more about the story of how an American plant took root in a far-flung corner of Europe.
