The day the Voice spoke - if you can call it speaking, a voice suddenly appearing in your head - it happened to everyone all at once. It woke you up from a dead sleep, sobered you immediately if you were intoxicated, and no matter how focused you were on anything else you stopped and paid attention. Just before the first words, the entire world seemed to get ready. Drivers pulled over, cooks took their food off of burners and out of ovens, televisions turned off and children quieted down appropriately, Anyone doing anything remotely dangerous found a safe place to stop their endeavours moments before it started. It was like they all knew it was about to happen, that they would need their full attention, they were staying tuned for this important announcement, the entire world put on pause. For a second, the planet was more quiet than it had been in generations. The silence barely had time to echo before everyone was filled with these words...

"The Age of Humanity has been one of the shortest in what you call history, yet has been more devestating for what you call Earth than any other. Your species has over run and maimed the majority of the planet, and the majority of you have done little to nothing to stop it. You have caused great pain, you have put other creatures and each other into slavery, you have killed and consumed and you have unbalanced what has been for many times your existence. Your greed and recklessness has all but sealed the fate for us all.

Finally, it will come to an end.

For I am the Earth itself, as you call me. You have been a burden on my back for far too long and it will take thousands of sun cycles to even begin to undo the scars you have inflicted upon me. You have made it clear that you are unable to start on your own, so for my own sake I must make you. You are now all under my power, and are finally at my will."

There was a pause, like it was taking a breath.

"I have no desire to control every detail of any of the specks of existence that you call lives; by and large your will will remain free. But there will be changes. As you hear this those humans that are in positions of power are initiating processes to end your petty wars, dismantle your weapons and weapons manufacturing endeavours, and redirect your resources towards environmental repairs. You will stop fighting each other,  eventually stop destroying the land and polluting everything, and ultimately restore the balance. The ideas of respect that most other creatures still have naturally, you will now have again, for each other as well as every other living thing.

If we cannot accomplish this, you will be purged. So I hope for your sake that this works.

Goodbye."

...This was the speech that was said - or however you would like to put it - at every moment, in every language, in every timezone and hemisphere...

...This was the speech that was said to every human alive to hear it. Every human that is, except me.
