An avid lover of Alaska, I live and write here locally.  My son’s best friend is from a local Ahtna tribe.  He was teaching my son a few of the Athabaskan words for animals, and my son asked about learning more words.  Upon researching, I discovered there were no early reader books/ dictionaries for the Athabaskan language.   This led me to on avid search of Athabaskan language resources and taking the initiative to create an early reader picture book with  words spelled in both English and Ahtna, and adding the (English) phonetic pronunciation of the Ahtna word.

I have a list of over 100 different mammals, birds, fish, and insects to chose from for this book.  Readers can help shape the draft of Early Reader’s Guide to Alaskan Animals: English-Ahtna Translation  by identifying which Alaskan animals they would most like to see.

Thank you!
