The story follows the adventures of Issak Dragonbane, a once aspiring wizard who, through disinterest and some laziness, has dropped out of Mages College and has been sent off to work with his father – the legendary Jerrek Dragonbane; a prodigious hunter of monsters and beasts.

Issak joins his father’s company Dragonslayers Ltd (unimaginative I know, but Jerrek isn’t known for his poetic streak!) and must endure the steep learning curve which is professional monster hunting as he faces one nightmare after another.

Just when Issak feels like he’s getting used to his new life however, Dragonslayers Ltd receives their first quest in many years. Before he can even mouth a protest, he’s loaded onto a boat with all the other monster hunting supplies and sent off to the Isle of Misery, to hunt the great wyrm which has been terrorising the small town of Northford!

Many trials lay ahead for Issak, but with a little skill and a lot of luck maybe he can survive long enough to be sent on another death-defying mission…
